Phoneman, I think the word you are looking for is "shear". Wind shear is known to knock airplanes out the air. Never thought much about being on the ground beneath one, but I bet that would not be fun at all!

I agree. I just hope it doesn't happen again. We are very close (finally) to starting on our house but we are having it built for coastal winds (130 mph). I hope that will keep it safe. And we're doing a commercial grade tin roof. I'm tired of shingles being everywhere.

Fried Oreos are yummy! Now I want one.

A barn raising.... now that sounds fun! Bringing a bottle of wine and a rooster cracked me up! I'm not sure we have the knowledge for the construction but we can always find someone. I think that might be a really fun idea and what a great story to tell!

We thought about putting one of the jacks in there but they have killed our baby goats in the past. However, that was when they were all separated and now they all kind of hang out together so it might be different. My husband doesn't think the donkeys were intending to hurt the baby yesterday but they definitely weren't letting the mama near it. I'll have to think about it.

I woke up at 7 am and went out to check on the lamb. All the sheep were up by the pasture gate... lamb included! Usually they take off when someone approaches, but they didn't. Uh oh. I look up and there's that dang dog, in the pasture, sniffing where she had the baby, about 50 ft from where we were. I ran as fast as I could, fell on the steps going into the house, woke everyone up screaming. Unfortunately that stupid dog saw my husband coming with the gun and took off. I know it's hungry. It's really skinny. We might set a trap for it tonight.

It's called Downdraft and is caused by the collapse of the top of a large cloud formation. As the top of the cloud comes down it pushes all the air underneath it down and outward as it hits the ground. The air is cold because it comes from high up in the atmosphere. Wind shear is the boundary of two passing air flows. Like two cars passing on a small road. One air mass can be still but the other moves rapidly by the other. Has the effect like scissors, I.E. shears anything in between the two air masses. I was in US Army Aviation for years. I had to study the effects of foul weather and how to identify its formation. Yours eyes are far more accurate than a weather forecaster while you're flying a helicopter. But neither of these types of air movement can be seen easily unless they are at the edge of a rain event or dust or debris are in the air; but then you still need to be at an angle of view that allows for it to be observed. These two wind events lead the causes of weather related aviation deaths. Just thought you'd like to know what they are called and why.

I know Campobello used to go to horse sales up there every other Friday night. that is until they made everyone get coggins and ruined many peoples livelihoods. except the vets.. oh well a whole different deal... Glad your here You'll like everyone.. lots of fun... what kinds of chickens do you have? tells some about yourself..
