Great going, Don.

I have one just like that in my free range egg laying coop. Really easy to hang up and mine has been in use for more than 2 years now. I think I bought mine very cheap but that is just me. I may have paid way more than I should have for 12 used nest boxes. I like how the bottoms come out of mine for easy cleaning.

It is just amazing to me how they start out this cinnamon color and wind up a steel blue. But hey, I don't care. I was hoping to have one of these and out of a dz eggs I did manage this one! Hooray! Now I can't wait til "she" is grown and I can see what she will look like.

As promised.......

I gave the guy his asking price. Did not try to get him down as I felt he was too cheap to start with. I may have been all wet but I paid 40 dollar each and feel that they are worth more than that. I told him so and told him about the Abbeville show. He only lives a couple miles away near Greenwood. He says he has four more to sell. I kind of hope he decides to keep them and try again. I told him about my chicken fort made out of an old steel storage building. It had some holes so I left the steel panels and clad the outside with old style thick tin from a barn that we torn down. It now has two layers of metal on each wall and the roof. I think it should stop every thing but maybe a bear now. I think he had an open coops with no fences so maybe he'll build another with better defences. Anyway, I'm happy to have them and if anyone wants to contact him email me. Donald

Hey I need a nestbox like that but smaller....Does anybody know where I can get one??? But maybe just 3 wide instead of 5. Cause my hens still will not go into their nestboxes(of milk crates) since the black snake hijackin of eggs. So now they lay just about anywhere, but the nest boxes. I thought about changing things around so that may just make them forget the ol bad snakey....

Now, Don, don't be finding a good deal right here in Greenwood on something I could use and then talk the guy into keeping them! Seriously.....

$40.00 is a good price. I paid over $100 for one with 6 nest boxes. I could use his other ones. Can you send me the info? [email protected] You got a great deal!

We decided to spend the weekend at the farm. I'm so excited! Just arrived from the grocery store with a car full of food and here comes a van full of people. Just stopped by to buy some chicks. Really?

Of course it's the middle of the afternoon and 200 degrees outside. We talk a bit, she picks out the chicks she wants and then says she has nothing to take them home in. What's with people? And this lady was well-dressed and sounded fairly intelligent. DUMB! I'm going to start selling boxes for people who don't bring something. Why would you show up unannounced (I say appointment only on my website) with nothing to take the chicks home in. Last time I'm doing that. I did make them all wait outside in the heat while I put my groceries away. Normally I'm not that rude but it made me mad.

I know someone makes a three by three but I have not seen any used ones for sale. You could use one of these and leave either the top or botton roost bars folded up. Your chicken then would be able to only use five of the boxes. In my picture all the roost bars are folded up and held in place by a clip that's mounted to the frame. The top boxes have a single wood roost bar and the bottom has a double wood roost bar. Both are on hinges on the ends. You can make out the hinges on the bottom roost bar on the box in the front on my pictures as they are bent side ways. Don't think the chickens will care but I'll fix that when I clean them up.
