I have some BEAUTIFUL blue orpingtons but they're not laying yet. Those orps sure do take their sweet time! Mine came from Mary - Southern Bee Lady. They are really nice birds. Not sure if she has any for sale but you could check with her. I'm hoping to have eggs anyday now but.....orps take their time, they must be true southern birds.

Thanks Joy!

Anybody need a marans rooster? I have a really beautiful splash french marans roo, need to place a couple of them. These are from a quality breeder, I ordered them in March and out of 23 birds I think 15 were roosters. I also have a really pretty splash olive egger roo (ee x black copper maran) that needs his own flock. Just thought I'd throw it out there, you never know.

Still have plenty of black jersey giant roos too.

My birds have completely stopped laying too but my guess is it has to do with cocci? If all else fails blame it on that. It's my new motto for the moment.

I was getting 12 eggs from 3 birds every 4 days like clockwork. Now no eggs in 2 weeks from them. Had one hen spurt a few out 10 days ago a couple days apart but been a solid week and nothing. Hm. They are 6 months old.

I didn't even think about molting. Would they be right now or soon?

Ours are almost 15 weeks old and losing tons of feathers. Is this the juvenile molt they do? They seem to be the smaller ones still. Only a few of the long, colored ones. When they first started, I almost had a heart attack. I went out to take them some goodies and was standing outside the run. In the back corner was a lot of feathers. All but one of the girls had come running. I just knew something had managed to get one of them. Before I could get Lou Ann out there, the other one came arou d the corner. What a relief!

Thank goodness my flock is starting to pick back up in laying. I was down to only one basket of eggs a day from the free rangers and now they are starting to lay better. I had to go back and get the rest of the eggs with another basket yesterday. I am betting this cold snap will throw them off again but they should only take 2-3 days off and get back to normal great laying. Looking back in my record books it happens like this every year.

I have missed reading a lot on this thread but so not have time to go back and catch up. Busy, busy here at the farm. Enjoying some good working weather. Last duck coop only needs to have the hinges on the roof!

Oh, and the pvc roofing material but that is supper quick.....if the wind isn't blowing 900 miles an hour!

I am going down to Swamp Rabbit Cafe and grocery this afternoon to check it out. Jackie hasn't said if she has visited it yet so I will go nosy around and see what yummies they have.

DD went back to school yesterday but came home exhausted and wheezy. She gets a check up on Monday and I hope they say she is better. She was supposed to go to FL this weekend with her JrROTC group and is bummed she missed that. But she got a huge promotion and made 2nd Lieutenant so that made her happy.

Well, back outside with my cup of cocoa I won off the swap thread. I'll grab my new cordless drill and get to finishing up that duck coop.

I hope everyone is doing well and enjoying this cool snap!

We are trying the deep litter method in the coop. My only concern has been this winter when they are in there a lot. If we put stuff down on the floor, like BOSS for them to scratch around and find, to keep them entertained, wouldn't it be bad for them in the old litter? I know most of their poop is now, finally under the roosts, but not all of it. I am thinking more of those days when they are inside for a few days because of heavy rain, ice or really cold temps.
