Gosh, Moonchild, your babies are growing up so fast! They was just itsy bitsie babies the other day. You must be feeding them "sprouts"!

Good lucking bunch of birds. Your backyard is the more beautiful because of them. That roo is awesome. I sold all my JG roos. Those blues don't last long here! I am glad others can use them. And I have only one blue Wyandotte pullet left. I wanted to keep more but they sold too well. I should not complain really.

And DH and DD are encouraging me to order more chicks now.

I really do not want to raise them up through the winter. I have my specialty breeds that I am hatching out but would like to stop setting eggs in the next week.

Yancy! You are in daddy mode and the real shock is it doesn't have fur or feathers!

You look so good with a kid on your knee. You might need to get your own one day! Just don't put fur coats or feather hats on it!

I always love your photos and quips. You make me smile and laugh.
So glad the roo was a good boy. I am sure he tests who the man of the yard is every day. He doesn't want competition for his girls and you do bring the treats that are so near and dear to their hearts.

Thanks for asking, Pink.

She is fine as long as she has her inhaler. She goes back for a recheck today so they can see if her lungs have cleared up any. She is no longer wheezing and was able to clean her Guinea Pig room yesterday wearing a mask and with her boyfriend's help. Yes, she is back with her boyfriend again. He is rather clingy and she does not care for that but he could not stand to break up.

They took all the cages out, took all the shelves outside and hosed them off and scrubbed them down, cleaned the walls and floor and ceiling. They did miss doing the blinds but had those up to have the fan in the window so I can see how it got forgotten. Cleaned the cages and put it all back in. Took them about 6 hours and then her boyfriend had to go to work.

It will do him good, I say! She hates wearing the mask over her nose and mouth but would rather do that than get rid of her piggies right now.

The weather does not affect her as she seldom goes outside. If she did not look like me I would swear she wasn't mine.

I think the room should be cleaned like that every week! And they are welcome to do my kitchen next!

Hello all, I have a question for the thread....I want to ad a good meat, egg breed of chicken to our little farm. I desire Marans and hope to work on them in the spring as I love their eggs--are the a good meat breed too? I would also like to think about one other good meat, egg breed such as Opingtons, Wyandottes, Dominiques and Sussexes? I like the looks of all these birds but know nothing about them any help? I would like large eggs and a long laying season, plus a meat bird--what do you guys recommend??? I am in an area where I do get to see these birds so I am going on pictures.

I have read that the Marans were bred in France for both eggs and meat. Amy Nadine has eaten them and if I recall correctly she said they were very tasty.

Dominiques have wonderful personalities. Many in my flock were fathered by my brother's rooster, "Black Hawk". Black Hawk was a hatchery Dominique. My rooster, Blackie son of Black Hawk, is now three years old. He dances for me. I get a special portion of the mating dance, which translates "I love Mommy!" I answer that I love him too and Blackie puffs up with self importance, lol. Blackie free ranges our yard. Today he went with me to the mailbox. I had to promise that I wouldn't let the passing cars get him.

As I'm sure you can tell, I'm a little biased towards Dominiques.

The only other breed I can comment on is our Speckled Sussex. She is a very calm hen that takes no "crud" from anyone. My daughters like her pretty feathers.
