South Carolina

I was tickled to go to Williams this week and see that their feed had dropped by about 50 cents a bag. I was always upset to see my feed bill as the summer rolled on and most of my birds free range or at least get extra goodies like bread, BOSS and fruit.

It was almost a pleasure today to buy a 50# bag of wheat bran for the mealies and it was less than $12. They only go through that every 6 months. Geez, I am raising the wrong animals! Especially since my mealies have already more than paid for themselves in selling the second generation. And I haven't even finished the webpage for them and put it up yet.

Off to crash now. I just had to finish changing the paper in the brooder since Debra's messy little Swedish blue is in there. I love ducks but really, what little pigs they can be right from the start!

Lroach711 --- I have seen Faithway feed at The Great American Horse Store on highway 8 north of Pickens . Not sure how they compare on price.

I bought Faithway at Possom Kingdom early in the year. I bought 10 bags at a time to get a discount. Much cheaper than any of the feed available locally. I switched back to Southern States early in the summer. $3 higher on the bag but my chickens seem to do better on it.

I have two silkies setting on 3 eggs. Piled on top of each other. The oldest is full time and the younger is part time. So cute

I also have 2 broody splash orpington hens trying to set on 2 nest with no eggs. The other hens just get in on top of them to lay.

I gather those eggs several times a day.
I have been bidding on eggs on ebay but I am not 100% sure I want to set any more eggs. So I have not been motivated to bid as high as others.

Too many chicken decisions!!!!!!!!!!

Thanks for the info! Do you get your Southern States from The Great American Horse Store? That's where I got my last bag of laying crumbles..but I don't remember the brand and have already thrown away the bag. I think I'm going to have to stick to pellets though from now on..I tried the crumbles but I feel like half of it got wasted. The chickens just knocked it all out

They never did that with the pellets.

I think we are going to have a cold fall too.. and short.. i hope we have a wet winter.. no ice... we had sucha dry summer Im worried about the price of hay this winter to feed the hoses.. ahhhh...

My aunt used to live in Williamston and her in-laws lived in Pelzer. When we drove to visit, I was the navigator and had to read the map and all the road signs.

*Sigh*

I miss traveling through the Upstate. Yet another reason I read this thread! Thank you for bringing up the fond memories.

They are precious! I love the Silver Laced Wyandottes. They are so stunning!
Here is a photo I snapped the other day of my second generation from Jerry, my most handsome SLW roo. I do not plan to do a ton of breeding and hatching from my SLW like I do my Cochins but I love the pattern of a SL and enjoy the eggs enough to breed them some. And this is DH's favorite!
