No problem, Samantha! I am always wanting more advice!

We pulled the pump out and there was not a leak anywhere in the double line going down into the well. The foot valve was holding the pressure there very well. We checked all connections but when we went to put the lines back in the well I happened to balance on the air tank (sits over to the side separately, not under the pump) and it was empty! So we have no idea why there isn't any water in it and haven't a clue as to how to get the water to go there. Or at least I don't. The water line does run to it. I did start researching on the Net as I guess I will have to do some engineering here since DH just came back up to the house and went back to bed. I had a few customers and DH can't work alone. He needs cattle prodding!

So without me holding his hand it doesn't get done.

I swear there was even less pressure when I took a shower last night. Kinda hard to wash my hair with so little pressure as I have a thick mass. I need to cut it shorter but DD wants me to leave it long and I like it this length.

Anyhow, I know the spring needs adjusting to get the pump to cut off but DH does a tiny turn and it won;t cut on at all and then turning it just a teeny weenie bit makes it run all the time. It is a new pressure switch and there are 3 more in the well house where he has bought them in the past year trying to get one to work.

Anyhow, I wish you did live closer! Us women folks would be down there working on the sum a gum and get it to working right!

Cool beans! I think those would make terrific coops!
That netting will come in super handy. I am so jealous! Netting is on my wish list for next spring.
Love the audience! They can be rather nosy at times, eh?

I know I am forever trying to catch up on this thread. I am so many PMs to answer every day and as some of you know it can take me days to get back to you, plus I have auctions running and I visit so many other threads that I can't get it all done.

That is awesome that you all got 50 done! I would be happy to get to 10-12 done today but with working on the well I doubt DH can hold out to that much work on the farm. Of course, right now I am waiting for him to finish cooking homemade biscuits, bacon, eggs and grits plus gravy from fresh cow's milk. I am not going to say a word until we are almost through eating! LOL

So cool that you found a home for some birds so you can expand! And how awesome about your quail!

Amy, we don't want to hear about your country fresh breakfast if your not going to share with everyone. - Just kidding. Sounds great. Hope you get the well fixed soon. Is that your only water source?

Yancy, how wonderful that they had some cutie patootie "Mille Fluors" at the fair!

I have seen them spelled a multitude of ways that brings a chuckle but still they are so pretty. Glad your friends liked them. Just wait til you have some and they can pet them. They are just so soft! I am totally in love, too!

Funnel cake.....oooohhhh the pounds I could gain. DD made some Mexican version last week that calls for cinnamon so I was safe. I ate a bite to try it but I do not care for cinnamon taste. Fragrance, yes but not taste.

I like to make a potpourri pot on the stove in the winter with vanilla and sticks of cinnamon or even in the crock pot to make the house smell fabulous and my favorite perfume is Cinnabar. Mmmmmmmm.....

Anyone ever have a run in with avian cholera? I have that rooster with swelling face and one swollen wattle and he has a 107 temperature!!! I'm so terrified this is what it could be. I'm wondering I'd my whole flock will need to be euthanized.

You all come on over! Breakfast will be ready as soon as the bacon is done. Bad that I don't get around to eating breakfast until later in the day but DH doesn't get up at 7 like I do.

He did however, make a good supper last nice of grilled salmon (DH only uses wood to grill, no charcoal or gas for him), asparagus and rice pilaf. Yup, there's a reason I keep this man around!

Yes, our only water source. We have never tied in to city water since it comes from a well, too. We live so far back off the road it would cost a small fortune to lay the pipe now and I think hook up price is around $300.
Our pump works but it is a pain to pop off and we have to go out and cut the breaker on and off. Our power bill dropped by $60 this month though since I just keep it turned off until I need to use it. We'll get it straight at some point.

107 is the normal temp for a chicken.
Swollen face is not normal. Does it look like maybe a snake bite instead?

Hate to say that would be better than cholera but it would. He doesn't have a fever so you are good in that area.

I see potential coops in everything! And you saw I have a ton of junk laying around.

Yes, I have a trap, too. I caught mostly the neighbors cats. Since I got Jolie, I have no need for the trap. Although, after smelling the skunk stench on her last week I find myself grateful that she smelled that way and not me!

I had one that was fine when he went to roost. The next morning one side of his face and one wattle was badly swollen. In fact, the wattle burst later in the morning and he died later that day. I watched the others closely for weeks but no one else got sick. We think he was bitten by a copperhead during the night. I left the door to the run open then. (always close now) He was closest to the open door. When I told my dh about it that evening, he suggested a poisonous snake. We checked the whole chicken coop but never found it.

Best wishes for yours
