It probably is a game bird of some sort. And yes, they do often get away from owners, get lost during storms, get frightened away by other animals and get lost or some just get dumped out.

Your bird feeder allows some good eating but I am sure she is probably laying eggs or getting ready to start back this time of year so putting out some layer crumbles will help with her nutrition some, too. There may be a feed store around that sells layer crumbles or laying mash in a smaller bag than just 50#.

Most city ordinances have been passed to allow no chickens but others have passed to allow hens and no roosters. There is a section here on BYC that helps you find out about your area.

I am sure she has done well to survive this long and may attract a rooster with her clucking around. You just never know. Also, the owner may be out looking for her but catching a game bird is often too much work when you can hatch out more.

I hope you have a new pet and will get to enjoy her for a long time. Maybe she will be kind enough to find your porch a coxy spot to lay you some eggs. One can always hope!

There may be tons of other ideas on here from other folks and that is what is so great about BYC. We all come together to help each other.

Amy Nadine, you are always so nice and helpful. I know I'm not the only one on here that really and truly appreciates you! You are like the SC Welcome Chicken Wagon. And that's a good thing!

So it is zipping? Cracked some out of the shell but hasn't done anything else?
It can take 10 minutes or 24 hours, depending on the temp, humidity and breed. Mostly temp and humidity.
Ducks require a lot more humidity to hatch out. I have had plenty to hatch out with 55% but some people say 70% is optimum.

Good luck!

I'm am so tired! We had about 100 people from our Sunday School class out today for a picnic. The Lord surely gave us gorgeous weather! I know that next time I need to lock up my coops. I had kids coming and going everywhere! My poor kids were wearing themselves out trying to police everyone. But it was great! My husband spent the afternoon giving hayrides. Kids were kayaking and on the paddle boat and fishing. And everyone kept telling me how wonderful it must be to live on a farm. Yes, thank you, yes it is. Just wonderful! It's always nice to watch kids who have never seen donkeys or chickens or fished or been out in the wide open. The parents are always amazed how much their kids love it. Why wouldn't they? It's how they are meant to live. It was a great day but I'm beat. Time to put up the guineas. They had a very big time today!

I did, however, find Kitty Witty on top of the roof of a coop chasing a guinea. No idea how that cat got up there. Better keep an eye on her.

LOL I think I don't have anything else much in life except working chickens and ducks. You guys are like a support group for my job. All the ups and downs, you guys are right there experiencing it, too. I love to help others out with what little I do know and love to talk. The chickens are not too good at conversations so you all help out a lot in that area! I love chatting and learning from you all, too! All my breaks are spent here on the internet and mostly on BYC. You all's my buds!
