The one laying the brittle egg may take another year before she starts laying a decent egg or she may improve next spring. I had a Faverolle that never laid an egg without calcium bumps on it. I often do find eggs in the laying coop that feel like sandpaper but it isn't always from the same hen because color and shape seem to be different.
I credit it to what they happen to be eating, how they are digesting and absorbing their nutrients and how stressed they are. Your lady may get a lot better as time goes on.
It should not bother what is inside the egg. I have always kept those eggs back for myself unless the neighbor's kids want them. They like all those odd eggs.
I think I saw part of the problem today. These eggs are sooo very brittle that when she lays them they almost always have a broken spot. I saw her lay one today and she proceeded to eat it
Also, I'm almost positive that when she is laying, she's laying 2 of them a day. Very very weird. Since I've only got 7 hens in that coop I can tell most of their eggs apart bc I spend so much time watching them. I have seen each of them lay and know what their eggs look like. I really hope she gets her "egg factory" straightened out. She's my favorite and I really hope she starts laying some pretty dark eggs like she's supposed to!
