Hey, an empty pen is an empty pen! I can always find stuff to stick in pens! I cleared out my A frame tractor the other day and immediately stuck some growing up kids in there. They are not happy to be out of the brooder room at night but they love it during the day.

So happy to hear you are putting your Coral Blues in a pen! I will be asking for eggs next spring! We may can do a swap!

My black copper roo will not be going into the freezer. He is WAY too nice for that. Albert has become such a fabulous fella and I feel bad that I don't have any splash hens for him. He is in with blue copper and black copper girls for the time being. That is not my favorite color combinations but he is a super rooster so he will be here unless a better home comes along.

He used to be in with all black copper hens but I moved my splash roo in with them and was hatching from that pen. I wanted to make sure the blues that hatched out were pretty enough and everything about them was nice enough to offer to others.

I hope Lydia improves with the day. Bless her little heart. It is so hard to be young and sick. And you getting it is really the pits! Doubly hard on you now.

Try to enjoy this gorgeous day as best you can. The weather is supposed to be lovely! I am printing out labels and shipping out boxes so I am inside for the moment but I am about to finish this up and head out for the day. We don't get this kind of gorgeous weather very often.

Hey Amy, we also have a flock of coral blue guineas, so far they are laying about 3 eggs a day, and it is possible that they are fertile. We have 15 total and we have 8 tagged as female.

We also have Foley Wyandottes, but we have the partridge varity.

Neat! It is so nice to know that others have the coral blues.

I love all the light colors of Guineas, though I have about 35 Royal Purples and Pearls out running the farm. As soon as the other 12 grow enough they will be out, too.
But the dundottes, lavs and coral blues plus my one precious slate blue will stay penned for safety sake.

Which reminds me....Joy, how are your slate blues coming along?

I love the Jerry Foley Wyandottes. I have had other bloodlines but none compare to the conformation and temperament of the Foley birds. I am not partial to Partridge but I can bet yours are totally gorgeous!!

Do you let your Guineas free range all the time (I might have asked this already) or do you let them free range part of the time and coop up at night for security?

Hey Amy - I was going to send you a friend request on FB but I can't find you! How many names have you got girl? Can you tell me how much the milk is at the Dairy? I have a friend looking for someplace to buy milk regularly and I told her I would find out. Do they have store hours? Is this Mabry's Dairy?

I am on Facebook as West Knoll Farm.

Mabry stays sold out most of the time. They milk at 5:30 am and 5:00 pm so the milk is in the cooler for about 30 minutes before sold out. They are looking for more cows to buy. Like us, they can't keep a good product in stock.
There must be some people that know you that buy milk there since I saw a few of your egg cartons brought in for re-use. People come in to buy milk and eggs and bring back their empty cartons. I use the milk jugs to store water in here or as feeders or waterers for my chickens. I have stopped buying water containers. They are made cheap and do not last. I already have the milk jugs, now.

Well that explains my one customer I lost. Bummer, I help her find fresh milk and lose a regular egg customer. It's all about convenience and saving time. Oh well....yes I have referred several people to Mabry's. I have customers all the time asking for milk and other products. I wasn't sure if Mabry's was the dairy you sold too as you never called them by name. I will give their name to my friend and she can talk to them. She would be a weekly customer if they have enough. So how are you using milk jugs as chicken drinkers?

Mary - I don't even try to guess color until they're a little older. Usually by the 2nd or 3rd week I can see what the cochins will be. Silkies are harder for me, still have trouble as some of the ones that look black to me are called blue by others. But as for leaving feedback, I have to answer this from an egg "shippers" point of view. I think the only fair feedback to leave is pertaining to how you received the eggs. There are many factors contributing to the hatch rate - incubator temps, human error, mishandling during shipping etc. And for my own education - is there some way you can check to be certain that the 7 eggs were infertile and not damaged in shipping? I would love to know a way to check after they've sat in the incubator for 3 weeks. Just wondering. So am I understanding this right - you bought 12 eggs and they sent 18. 7 were clear with no development. 11 were obviously good and so far 3 have hatched? Fingers crossed your other eggs will hatch. Shipped eggs are a gamble for sure.

ccw2005, thought of you this morning while I was collecting eggs!

I sure as heck dont wanna see the chicken that laid the egg in middle of all those small ones!

Actually, thanks for the picture! I see the freckles on the eggs and do think that a few of my girls are recalibrating their ink jet settings!

My Araucana's are now laying more and I think that the freckled one I have is from one of them. Funny, my Araucana's are sitting on the eggs and my Buff and Astraulorp pop em out and are back in the run within minutes. I always thought Buffs tended to be more broody.

Thanks again!

Hey guys......

To test all of your knowledge I am asking an odd question.

I do raised garden boxes and one is with strawberries. Do any of you have strawberries in raised boxes? If so, how many plants per box....and is spring the only time to thin them out?

Ok ok ok ok.......to keep in line with the forum.....Do chickens like strawberry plants?
