Yeah! Mine is about to work me and DH to death wanting to get this house in decent shape. OMG! I hate housework! I stay outside more and more to avoid her overbearing house work regime! She had DH mopping the floor at 10 pm last night! And has a long list of chores for us all to do today. Geez! I created a monster!

thats morgan too.. I got yelled at from the house this am/// Hey chicken lady put your chicken up and come in and do dishes.. sheewwww. so I put my hen down and went in and did dishes. hahha

I am trying to keep DD busy cooking so she will stop with the stupid house work. I mean really, it just gets dirty again!

We have made 4 from scratch sweet potato pies. Leah put marshmallows in hers, I put nuts in mine and 2 are just plain pie. We have made the deviled eggs, too.
Now on to the broccoli/rice casseroles. Have to make 2 since they are so popular.
And I have looked through 3 bookcases for the magazine with my favorite corn dish recipe in it. I can't find the blasted thing!!

I did find my famous orange glaze recipe though so that is cool. We have it in several places because for the past 20 years I have had to make it for everyone and now DD's boyfriend bought a ham and said to make it for him again. I usually only do it for Christmas but we do love ham. We will eat it, too. Never did get those ducks to the killing cone. I suppose they will be Christmas ducks instead!
I have deer thawing so I can make a roast and tenderloin from it.
And we will still be finishing up the cooking tomorrow morning.

Whew! Holidays can be a lot of work! But it is great to be with Leah, sharing what little I know in the kitchen.

Oh man! I really like those. And I love your field that they are in. Oh, to have mowed grass.....
Those are some nice turkeys. I hope you sell them and get the price you want. DH wants turkeys so badly and I won't let him get any. We do not eat turkey.

I did not eat turkey either, I have always hated turkey, until I ate one of ours.

You are right about that. If we had them and did them ourselves we would eat them. My sister can do a good turkey but mostly I like chicken.
What am I saying? Do I really look like I turn down ANY food?

You do not want to start with puppies. It will be almost 2 years before those dogs would do you any good.
Try the rescue in NC. They can pair you up some nice dogs for the farm and yard.
I would be lost without my Jolie Oli O! That is the BEST dog! Thank you again, my wonderful friend Karen.

Someone said you have to get puppies so you can raise them with chickens. Ugh! I'm so confused!

You CANNOT put your puppies with chickens and expect them to know what to do. Trust me....been there, done that. And even though pups are doing what they should at the breeder's farm, they won't necessarily behave that way at your farm. They behave differently when the adult Pyrs are supervising. The parents won't let the pups harm the livestock, the adults won't be at your farm. Be careful who you buy from and don't believe everything they tell you. I have 18 month old puppies (Pyrs mature VERY slowly). They aren't considered mature/adult until 3 years of age. It is so worth the money to buy an adult working dog if you can find one. I couldn't find one so I'm doing it the hard way. I do not recommend this way.

Just ask all the people on here that have the Great Pyrenees and have raised them from puppies how many chickens they have lost to them.
The rescue in NC usually know what the dogs have been around and what they are good with. I did not get Jolie until she about 3 years old but she was raised in a backyard without chickens. However, Karen took her to her house and had her male Great Pyr train her to chickens. I think she still lost a few but Jolie certainly would not kill one now, though she will chase off crows, doves and even sparrows.

I had read the NC rescue checks the dogs out for getting along with cats, children, other dogs, farm animals and other situations to make sure they match them up with the right family.

I did not want a dog and fought it for a long time because I knew a puppy would be a long painful process. I used to train and show obedience dogs. A Great Pyr seemed out of my league and patience tolerance. Thank God I have Jolie. Now I can find a puppy and let her do the training. But this next time I think I will go with an Anatolian. Not as much hair!
