Does anyone have two roosters with several hens running free range? I had two roosters once, but they fought. One was an Americanau, and one is a large mixed rooster. It seems like people do have more than one rooster together with no problems.

our problem was not with roosters fighting. It was with the girls running and hiding. They did not go out in the yard, they would hide in corners trying to not attract the boys attention. We felt bad for them. Once we removed one of the roosters, the girls were back out. We had 14 girls and 2 boys. Not enough girls to go around.

That is one from me. She hatched out eggs from me and raised her.

She's beautiful. I can't wait to find some!

The problem I had was the older rooster chased the younger one. He never tried to actually hurt him, but kept him very skittish. The hens carried on as usual. Maybe if I had let the younger rooster get fully grown it would have been ok.

I want turkeys, but I need to learn a lot more first. I also need to get over feeling a) afraid I'd get too attached when it came time to process any and b) feeling a little intimidated at the thought of processing a big bird by myself - chickens are so much smaller.

The only reason I'd like another rooster is because I want some Blue Coper Marans, and might like to raise some one day - and those roosters are BEAUTIFUL!!! Maybe the trick is having three roosters. Too much trouble to try to chase two other guys around!

EggieRowe, that's sad about the raccoon. 

During the Urban Farm tour last year we went to a home where some of the runs were uncovered, but the owner propped cut/fallen limbs against the wall in sections at an angle. It gave the chickens a shelter they could run under that would stop a aerial attack. I thought it was brilliant - free and zero maintenance, except maybe replace a fallen or rotten limb periodically.

Our tractor supply was having a sale on leghorn pullet chicks (25 cents a chick! they were a few weeks old) so now I have 20, and we may get more

I also have 4 broody hens (3 of them are silkies, of course) , some on chicken eggs, some on turkey eggs. This adds to the 4 silkie chicks I already have. Ah, spring, you gotta love chick season

I also thought I'd update on my cows. Little Valentine is so fat and is getting so big! Our bull is really filling out and looking more like a bull. He still has to get on his knees to graze (messed up neck). Our mother who lost her baby is doing well. Her udder is shrinking and she has no sign of mastitis. We decided not to get her a foster, as she was doing well without one. We turned everybody out into our 'big pasture' now that calving is over, and they love it, and love playing in the pond.
