Hi, I am in York SC, any local chicken owners near me?
Welcome back Beth. Have fun picking out your chicken breeds. That is half the adventure. I find self control is needed.Hey y'all! I was on this site several years back when I had chickens the first time, but I had to move out of the country into a neighborhood and couldn't take my babies with me.But now I'm back, ready to start my chicken adventure again! I'm so excited, and I'm not sure that my hubby of almost 8 months really knows what he's in for, haha. We're in the beginning stages of getting a "farm" up and running. I've got two horses, and we're nearly done clearing 11 acres for a pasture so I can finally have them at home instead of boarding them. I know I want some chickens again, I'm conservatively guessing a dozen. I had 25 or 30 last time. I do know how addicting they are though! They're just for eggs and pets, I'm doing more research this time to figure out some cool breeds. The Hubs has mentioned showing some of the fancier/cooler birds that I end up with, but I've never done that before. I'm having a hard time finding a plan for a coop that I like. I've built two myself from scratch, so I kinda know what I want and don't want, it's just a matter of figuring something out I guess... Hubby also wants a couple/few head of beef cattle, I've seen someone on this thread with cows... I'm going tomorrow to buy a book or two on raising cows since I have no idea what I'm doing in that regard.![]()

I guess I could say I'm from Aiken; I'd lived there for 15 years before I married the most amazing man back in May and he moved me out to the middle of nowhere in between Williston and Barnwell. He lets me wear my princess tiara and have run of the place. It's very nice to meet y'all and I hope I learn lots!![]()

Hello everyone. My husband and I have purchased our first home and we're planting our roots here in Sumter, SC. We have about 2.5 acres in the county with a grape vineyard, and we can't wait to own chickens, peafowl, and some goats. My daughter is getting ready for her first science fair project, and we're thinking this is a great excuse/opportunity/motivator for us to finally have chickens! We're wondering if anyone in the area might have 3-6 fertilized eggs for hatching (looking for brown egg layers) for purchase or free if you're happy to donate. We don't mind driving to get them up to an hour commute. My husband works in Bethune. We're hoping to get started on this project soon....within the next week or two. I'm sure I'm more excited than our kids.![]()
