South Carolina

Hi Everyone in SC. I am in Windsor which is close to Aiken. My babies are spending their first night in their grown up coop. So quiet in the house now. They are almost 9 weeks old and my study will never be the same! This is my first time with chickens! I belong to the Hope Exchange group, has some good info. on it.

Hi Annek!

I know what you mean about the house being so quiet suddenly.

I cured myself of that today- I just drove 12 hours with 13 four week old chicks in the truck with me. I am looking forward to the silence now!

Enola, Nadine or Ranchhand I just went to Akien to visit Dipsy Doodle Doo and got a few roosters from her. I will be up that way again soon. I would like to visit with other chicken people if you guys will have me. Always willing to meet people with the same interest as me.
Lisa will vouch for me if you need a reference.

You are welcome here.
I have met with Daniel, Enola, KeniSue, Luann, Priszilla and Gary. It's really nice to meet new people that have this addictive interest like I do.

I have a few different breeds (17 or 18) and lots of tractors and a few coops. I'm close to 300 chickens now but plan to sell some to get my numbers down. All this chickeneering is working me to death.
And the heat! Thank goodness the humidity went down but still, it is hot as the dickens. At least my tan is improving.

COD! (come on down) Did you see me waving from I95 Sat. afternoon? I was the silver truck blazing through, with 13 chicks in the back seat!

I took 2 roos to Columbia last Sat. to the Guinea Pig/Rabbit show and put them in the raffle. Got a lot of bids on the white Araucana roo but that poor Silkie sat there till almost the end before anyone wanted him. I never saw who got them but I found that to be any easier way to get rid of extra roos and help the club. I always put fresh eggs in the raffle, too since I know most people find them interesting. I mix up the colors inside and we often get plenty of bids.
BTW, on the ride down to Columbia (1 1/2 hrs) the roos said not a word. They waited until I got them in the gym where the show was held before crowing. Praise be!

I went to get 13 Delaware Blue Hens from fellow BYCer Bec. She had gotten them from UD for someone who never showed up. She asked me about them, and since I have a very dear friend only 40 miles away, I combined the two visits. My friend is actually like my second mother, and 84. So I was really glad for the visit.

What with weather and bridge delays, it was 13 hours each way. And the one month old chicks shrieked at every bump and pavement change.
