Hey Enola!
No, the Wellies have been sold. Weekends are usually pretty busy with people buying chickens, chicks or eggs and any hens go very fast! I really don't have much of anything left to sell except some bantam Cochin pairs. Even most of my chicks are pre-sold now and just waiting for pick up. And roosters! I always have extra roos for sale or I put them in the freezer this fall.
And of course, this fall I will have plenty for sale again as I decide what birds are nice enough to keep for future breeding. I am still hatching (like an idiot!) so there will be more pullets for sale. Or there are some chicks that are st. run that I can sell. But most folks like to know if they are pullets or roos so I grow them up.

BTW, everyone, I don't know how hot it got at your house yesterday but I lost 3 hens due to heat! Two died in the nest box in 2 different barns and one was in a tractor and we brought her in the house for cooling off but she died overnight. I lost only one hen last year due to heat, that I know of. It isn't even the Solstice yet and already I have lost 3 in one day! My thermometer on the north side of my house, in the shade, read 102! And I put ice cubes in water containers in the middle of the day so they have a cool drink to help their bodies. Guess they actually have to drink it before it gets warm again. I used to do ice packs before I had so many birds and not enough ice packs or room for gal jugs to freeze.

Hot Hooottt HHHOOOTTT here in Greer Nadine. I put a box fan in the coop, and they all went in there and laid down in the shade and fanned out. It looked like a chicken blanket!. I take out watermelon from the fridge during the heat of the day too. Haven't lost any thank goodness, sorry about yours.

mine went crazy for the All Natural strawberry popcicles from Aldi this weekend. I haven't lost any body yet, but man its awful out there. I feel bad for all the critters. I've put up a box fan on the coup, their choice if they want to be in there or not. I am putting ice in their water. I am hoping this heat breaks soon and its not like this all summer. YUK

I put the box fans in the brooder room, the Cochin shed and a back stall chick grow up pen but the fan for the Cochin shed and back stall died on me. All that dust just eventually gunks up the motor or bearings or whatever.

Bigdaddyabc, I am only a few miles north of Greer off of Hwy 14. Surely it got as hot at your house as it did at mine!

I am with you on that, Karen! I hope it breaks soon! It was bad enough when you were here on Friday but we did stay in the shade as much as possible! Sat. was super bad and I had a few people say they could not stand it but yesterday I had a few people call to say they just couldn't come out in this heat. I don't blame them. The heat and humidity is really rough!

I haven't even looked today. I have been busy running around putting ice cubes in the water and trying to stay out of the heat as much as possible. I still feel like I have gotten cooked in the short while I was outside.
The ducks.....er, me and the ducks, did pla in the sprinkler a bit. I wasn't actually trying to get wet but I was trying to arrange the sprinkler in a good spot and got wet with the ducks all running behind me wanting me to hurry up and put the sprinkler down.

Post them for free or for $5 on Craigs list. We always eat our extras so if my one Delaware stays here til fall he will go in the freezer and we shall see how it tastes.
Nothing can compare to my Marans though. I have a lot of Golden Cuckoo roo chicks I know will wind up in the freezer but that is the price of raising birds. I didn't have very many Blue or blk Copper roos this year. I got a good many pullets...thankfully!
I have a pen of about 8 roos growing up and about 15 more free ranging during the day. There are never enough pens for raising roos.

But 10 Delaware roos may make you a good meal! Or 10!
