What is everyone doing for Thanksgiving next week?

Are you going to eat any of your own Turkey that you raised or are you taking a trip to Grandma's house for her delicious turkey? Do you even eat turkey at Thanksgiving? What kind of dishes do you normally have and are you trying a new recipe this year?

We're having our family of almost 40 people to Greenwood. Yikes! Luckily we are eating our main meal out but then heading to the farm for an afternoon of croquet, kayaking, and games. We're having an Oyster Roast and BBQ that night. Then playing on the lake Friday (if the weather cooperates!). We don't raise turkeys. If we did, I'm not sure if I could eat one. I'm still trying to work through that whole concept!

Hope everyone has a great one!

Awww! That sounds like a really fun day!

We don't care for turkey so we don't raise any ourselves. We are planning on eating duck if we can find a good recipe. That kinda makes me think of the last scene of the movie "A Christmas Story".

I know someone that is trying to sell his white Leghorn pullets. They are at 6 months old and he may even be willing to trade for something. I am getting his RIRs next week, 5 pullets.
I believe they live in Union.

Ok.... Thanksgiving Day my family will get together. There should only be 10 or 11 of us I think. My mom is doing most of the cooking ( I get stuck with Christmas Dinner this year). There are a few dishes and desserts I will be taking. She will fix ham & a chicken (I am trying to talk her out of the whole chicken but she really wants giblet gravy even if she has to have a chicken to make it!)

Most of the family eats turkey I think...... I don't and my nephew doesn't.

DH & I have 4 "turkey farm" turkeys that we got at 6-8 weeks of age. They are not ready to butcher yet- still free ranging in the pasture.
DH has a buddy that has family requesting fresh turkey. He has some ready so he & DH will be butchering turkeys on Wednesday.

Saturday after Thanksgiving will be dinner for DH's immediate family. At least 9 people for that one. I will be doing all of the cooking for it.

ETA:I love to cook turkey. I just do not eat it

I will eat some of my sister's turkey or I think rather it is my bro in law that cooks it but they do all kinds of neat recipes and I am absolutely NOT a cook. I try but I find it tedious. I would rather be down at the barn! LOL
DH is a good cook but he has to use beer or wine to do it and by the end of cooking you really aren't sure what you may get! LOL Usually it is great though.

But we really don't make or eat turkey at our house and I think it will be only 4 of us for Thanksgiving dinner if my DD's boyfriend comes over. We plan to make duck.....yes, one of our own.

And I will make crock pot mac and cheese as it is requested by my DD along with broccoli and rice dish. Gotta have some green beans and sweet potato souffle.
For dessert I try to make a pecan pie and a toll house pie with vanilla ice cream. That is usually a few hours later though!

I envy you all with your large family get togethers. We used to do that when Mom and Dad were alive but now it is only me and my sis left and we seldom get together. I invite them but they don't come and she tells us to drop in anytime so I know that means she isn't planning on us having the big dinner with them.

Oh well, one day...many years away... my DD will give me some grandbabies to have for dinner, too.

Dominicker, I'm in Trenton too! I don't have any of the chickens you're looking for, but have you tried Country Boy? They've got some nice chickens up there, and the selection changes often. I've got what I think are silkie eggs, if you want, they're white (the birds are).

There are well over 40 of us on my paternal grandmother's side. I have not been to one of those Thanksgiving dinners since she passed away. That made for a crowded house too, because we all came to her small house

Both of what I will be doing is only immediate family. Sisters, brothers, nieces, nephews, parents/inlaws.

Mom gave me the menu today. Of course the things I love (sweet potato casserole) no one on that side of the family eats but me

DH says I cannot have more chickens if I do not start cooking again!
I have not been cooking really for the past couple of months...I would rather hang out with the chickens all day
