John...you got me...thats what I look for...did you look at the candling pics on here? They are very good...just can't see through these marans shells so they may be in for duration. I was afraid my cochin rooster was unable to fulfill his duties and it looks like I may be right...someone is giving me a giant jersey roo...my poor girls will be going from a bantam cochin roo to a giant...2 weeks to go John!

Thank you for the hatch rate John well Im happy with these babies. I think one of the red sex links is a roo but they all look the same to me they are light or dark

UPDATE!!: Got movement in most, lots of veins/chicks in others, did lose 1 black sexlink (bloodring). So that leaves me 10 of 11 still cooking!

john "Big Daddy" has arrived. As I stood looking out the kitchen window this am my friend pulled up unloaded a box honked waved and drove off. I went out and found a HUGE Black Jersey GIANT waiting for me...he dwarfs my cochin rooster... I guess he will be going to live with the RIR and BO. So if you want LF hatching eggs give me about a month or so...LOL

Makes me nervous when people start dropping chickens off here..I fear it will never stop!

Sounds great! So I'm guessing Big Daddy and the RIR, BO will make big black babies that lay alot of big brown eggs!!?!??

Yancy- I got your text yesterday a few hours after you sent it- I had my phone off to charge it. But I did see the egg on FB! It's so thrilling to get that first one! And if you wanna hear the egg song, come to my house. Good grief, my Black Stars can get loud. Then they get everybody else riled up.

Hubby said last week that he's ready for some more chicks. (At least he didn't say "another baby!" More chicks I can handle, a baby, not so much) We really want a few of ours to go broody, but who knows if they will? I told him he needs to get to expanding the coop before any littles come along.

John, How can you tell the sex between the red sex link I read you can color sex the chicks both of them are tannish red. Oh yeah the themometer that I got from wally world did great till the chicks got up running around then it went dead so if you can get 2 of them or a different 1.

yep its funny I got my roo and hes JG and EE mixed and he "likes" my 2 bantam hens they are so small and he has no trouble
