When DH gets to talking he sounds OLD

I promise he is only in his late 30s! Today he was telling me about his grandfather (who I never got to meet) making an incubator out of a 5 gallon bucket!!

(Had to be in the 70's or 80's - PawPaw died in the 80's)

Wanna bet that tomorrow he will count my chickens...AGAIN??

Dominicker - Nice coop! I think I could load that up on my trailer and bring it to my house

DH has one that he used for his laying hens several years ago. It is fairly big..and impossible to move from the farm to here.....he has tried to move it from where it is.....it has been there for at least 7 years and won't budge! We may work on figuring out how to move it this weekend! MAYBE he will

Thanks to walgreens not having FIL's much needed insulin in stock until Monday, I probably won't get much outside time. I have to find a walgreens with it in stock OR transfer the prescription to another pharmacy. AGAIN. Had to do that in Nov too. If I do get any sunshine time, it will be at the farm instead of here with all my babies.

OK enough chitter chatter. I am too talkative thanks to all the coffee and sundrop I have drank since 8pm. I need to try to sleep...gonna try to start my day early tomorrow!

HEY! I want lavender silkies too! My lav roo is in with a black hen that finally started laying. I have about a dozen eggs saved up... she lays almost every day so hoping they are still fresh enough to hatch so I can get some splits!

Ohhhh Moonchild.......JG eggs are pipping!!!

So far I have a Golden Cuckoo Marans chick out and a Silver Laced bantam Cochin out. The JGs are talking about it and are starting to unzip!

Second one out looks like a blue girl!

I can't say I am perfect at telling but on certain breeds when they hatch you can see a big pink comb or a small looking dark comb.
When the second chick emerged it looks like it has a dark comb and on the giant breeds that often means girls. Big, very noticeable pink or tan combs often mean boys.
It doesn't work on all breeds but even on my bantam Cochins it seems obvious.
However, my 4 mth old Delaware/RIR chicks still have me puzzled. If I had crossed a RIR roo over a Delaware hen then I would have sex links but I only had a Delaware roo so I crossed him to my RIR hens and got chicks that look like Delawares. Cute but all have small tan combs at 4 mths. I am still watching and hoping they are girls. I need lots in my laying flock.

So far 4 JG have hatched but I also have so many BLRW and Golden Cuckoo Marans in there along with a few bantam Cochins they are piled all over each other. I am sure more are going to come out.

I am trying to be patient.

Another EGG!!!! Another EGG!!!! Two Silkie eggs so far. My father in law has some Marans he plans to put on lock down this Monday or Tuesday, and he said I could add my eggs to the incubator. So only 1-2 more days for gathering. Sure hope they hatch. I'll b adding on to the coop b4 you know it.

Fancy new coop!! Mine is way smaller.

Just wondering if any of you SC people have a facebook page too??

And, Nadine where do you see your chickens??
