I have one mean rooster, Bob. It breaks my heart because I handraised him and he was a "special" pet. As a chick he was picked on by the others so he spent a lot of time being carried around by me or my son. He's a beautiful roo, millie/cochin cross. But when he got big enough to go outside, he almost immediately turned on me. At first, it was just me he was mean to but he soon started going at everybody. I don't have the heart to kill him or sell him as I worry somebody would be mean to him. He lives in a permanent "time out" pen and seems to have mellowed a bit this year. At one point I tried to give him some hens but he tried to kill them. I guess I do not have the heart of a farmer, I cannot eat my birds. I am a chicken farmer with a mothers heart.

Amy - congrats on getting some help at your farm. It sounds like you and Nicole are a perfect match! And I know Kimberly is happy not having to worry about Nicole's safety at some other job. I will have to depend on my 16 year old and my 6 year old for now. I had a mother volunteer her 12 year old, but I'm not sure how that would work.

Oh, I enjoyed sharing a customer with you yesterday! They came over and said "Nadine says hello"! I just laughed and asked them if Amy Nadine had let them keep enough money to buy any of my birds. Thank you, they did buy 5 birds.

I heard that one and said OMG

I bet they went home with a crapload of birds!

Nicole's Daddy is the reason she has not had to work before now.

He spoils her. If it was only up to me, she would have gotten her license and a job at 16 or 17, and she would have been in a university after graduation!! Of course I would have been half crazy with worry with her driving, working or at a university

Nicole says she has been waiting for a job she would enjoy - this would be it

It is everything she does here, and has been doing since she was 3 or 4

Hey, Joy, in my defense, I didn't know they were coming to your house until after they got what they wanted here.
Although they just bought one young roo and hatching eggs from me so that left them plenty of room for your birds. I told her I was wanting Porcelain d'Uccles and that you could show her examples of what I was looking for...sorta.
I can't wait until you breed yours and I can just see me having more than just a trio eventually! They are just so pretty but I have no idea what I would do with them other than gaze at their pretty selves.

Went to Lowes yesterday and loaded down the truck with materials for more building. We just don't know what to build first! So many projects and so little time!

I got over 200 chicks and ducklings due in the next 2 months! I gotta get busy.......busier!

Hi! I wasn't able to read all the pages from this thread...but was wondering if anyone near Spartanburg as Golden Laced Polish? Our daughter wants one and we are trying to learn all we can about them and how they would be in this climate. Thank you SO much...fellow chickeners are great!

Hello everybody - I hope you all had a productive weekend and took full advantage of the beautiful weather we've had. I was outside as much as possible and while out there I witnessed something I didn't think I'd ever see. My 13 year old German Shephard, Sophie, was being bullied by a rooster. Poor girl, I think I've overdone it with telling her to take care of her birds. This rooster had her cornered inside the dog kennel area and wouldn't let her out the gate. He was jumping at her face and she finally ducked into the dog house to hide from him. Then he didn't leave, I had to run him out of there. This rooster hasn't really been aggressive with us, he ran at me once and a good kick told him who was boss. But I felt so bad for my dog, I told her she didn't have to take that from any rooster but she really loves her birds ... and she really loves me. So, is there anybody out there that might be in need of a nice silver laced wyandotte roo? He is from last springs hatch, so he's almost a year old. I have a picture of him on my website if you'd like to see. It's not a great picture but maybe you can see he is a big, beautiful boy who needs a flock of his own. For the sake of my dog I need to find this rooster a new home.

My 14 eggs go into lockdown tonight from my own flock and I am so excited to see what they look like. My other babies are 6 weeks old and they are in the old pen and I was just wondering how old should they be to be put in with the big girls?

Put my 15 eggs on lockdown this morning!!
