I would sell it all and move to the farm!

That much acreage is probably man-made ponds for cattle and other livestock...which would fare better than the kind with linings most people have nowadays.

I love my duckies too. The runners don't fly, they run. LOL I love to watch them waddle around. I have pekins, cayuga, swedish blues and blacks, even a crested duck. My mallards and call ducks are the only flyers. I keep the call ducks in a covered pen with my millies. The mallards were raised here from ducklings, some were hatched by the hen in the yard. They have never offered to fly off. Occasionally one will fly around the yard and it's fun to watch. We don't have ponds. My ducks get a pool and they make a big enough mess with that. LOL The mallards free range in my yard and they have found my fish pond.

I don't believe I have any fish left in it now, and the water is very yucky. My other ducks are in a yard and they have a house that I lock them in every night. They have learned when bedtime is and all go up on their own except for three hardheaded pekins which wait on me to come and tell them "up, up, up, duck, duck, duck" and then they line up and go inside for me to close the door.

Ducks are fun and comical and they make me smile everytime I see them. Plus the eggs are great for baking! I did clip the wings on the muscovy ducks as I bought them as adults. But once they are full grown, they're mostly too heavy to fly very far. The muscovy ducks are great for fly control and some people like to keep them in a pasture with horses. The other ducks do a great job with snails and bugs. I have predators here and the coyotes would pick off my ducks if I didn't lock them up at night. The mallards can fly if they need too. And they've learned to sleep right next to the dog fence so they are pretty safe, haven't lost one yet (knock on wood). Also, if you have big ponds, you should make sure you don't have snapping turtles as they will drown the ducks while they're in the water. They will pick them off one by one til they're all gone.

Ugh... we do have snapping turtles. We had a humongous one right up by the house last summer. About 3 feet long. I'm not sure ducks are for me sadly. And, believe me! I want to live at the farm more than anything. When we stay out there for days at a time in our little ole house, I'm so happy! Unlimited time to dream, watch, play... I can spend/waste lots of time looking at my chickens. I just love them! Plus I'm about to start doing cut flowers and children's parties. The farm is calling my name! I almost have the kids convinced too! They still like this gated community with the pool, tennis pro, friends.... they're just messing with my dream!

Those look like eating eggs. Someone on this board has been to get chicks from him. I think it was you maybe! You send me the info on where he is since I'm so close. Or I'm delusional or drinking too much wine. Hard to say.

Soon! What are you looking for? I might be actually reducing my laying flock. I have too many chickens and eggs. Anyone interested in some laying hens?
