They are so cute, and of course all the handling they get makes them much more tame than the others. Of course I have my fill of snuggles with the three boys, hubby and the dog. . .but a few extra wont hurt

Hubby is getting bees later this spring He's excited. My mom already built there box and is going to try to split my sister's current hive. It's gotten so big! She is also getting two shipments in May, so either way Hubby is getting some bees!

Oh, yea. The reason I came on here was because I have a question. . .we are leaving town for a couple days. Our older animals are fine with a person dropping by once while we're gone. What do I do with these younger guys?? You think they'll still be happy in there bins two weeks from now (they are 2 weeks) If so I can just take them to a friend, or my mom's on the way to the beach. . .but if they are too big, which I'm assuming, I don't know who we can get to water and feed them.

I have a turner that fits the hovabator, but I prefer the LG & no turner to fit it - I prefer hand turning because I don't really set that many at one time in it

My gma just bought a turner for her LG. Chicky, does your LG have a fan? hers doesn't but I was wondering exactly if that matters or not. Like does she ABSOLUTELY NEED to get a fan. I know it helps keep the air more uniform, but she didnt need to spend money if it wasnt a dire necessity.

Also, Epitman "eric" has a homemade bator and he turns by hand like 8 times a day.

No no fan in my LG. I have been hatching with it since August - both our others are hovabators and neither of those have fans either.

Dunno why he didn't get one with a fan.

I turn from 3-7 times a day. depending on how much i am here. 3 times today

I try to keep up with turning by doing it an odd number of times on odd dates and even number on even dates LOL

The only thing I have noticed about the turner, it does raise the temps some in the hovabator. Two to four degrees I think. Especially around half way through.
I just remove one or both plugs in the top to see how much it drops & leave them out if needed. Sometimes one sometimes both.

I know some are pretty and some are croaky but I have never noticed how many notes are reached.

foxygoober, start driving the roads. You will see people are starting to clean up yards and garages with the warmer weather and throwing stuff to the curb. You will find an abundance of materials from other's trash.

Amy- On Saturday (National Poultry Day), he joined a new flock with about 80 hens to love on, rather than just my 10 girls. Apparently he needs, a uh, a larger selection. Little George is so cute, he's going to visit Furman University with me next Friday for a student forum on raising chickens. Better be on his best behavior- cock-a-doodle-do!

I let him out for a while this evening, and when I came back to check on him, he looked distressed. He was just sitting out in the yard. I was thinking oh, how cute. But when I got closer he didn't move. The first thing that came to mind, was one of my cats. Then I remembered earlier I had let my dog run loose for a while. How could I be so STUPID??? Not sure which one was the culprit, but he could use some blessing right about now. There's no blood. Just a few feathers here and there. Phanting, and he was slightly wet, with slobber I presume. He did cuddle with me, so I know he feels really bad.

Right now he's in the coop. That's where he's most comfortable. I'll check on him again in the morning.

Sure hope he's OK.

I would not do that for several reasons. I cannot list them all but main ones - what if they knock water over & no one there to refill? What if brooder lamp falls - that can cause a fire......... so many things could happen.

Of course I may have read this wrong anyways
