Pink thats what we found with ours. Just feathers, we are sure it was a red Tail Hawk. Its been back every day several times watching over the area looking for more.

Since then we havent let our chickens out to free range except for an hour with us sitting with them the whole time looking for the red tail. He showed up once, but we managed to herd them into the barn to saftey.

These keets are to adorable, and fast! Robert thinks they sound like the smoke alarm

Ohhh I dread the stories I hear about the hawks and the racoons~ and do we have weasels??? I read a post yesterday where they killed over 62 of the ladies meaties.... Pink I'm sorry you lost one of yours

I think I will be dried up and extra cripsy by the end of the summer at this rate!!

All this heat makes me cranky... lol Poor children~

Worst job in the heat??? maybe a railroad worker~ how about a train conductor, big metal train and no a/c hot sun beaming down on it all day long!! Or someone who tars roofs for a living. All jobs I dont want anything to do with~ my heart goes out to them and a cool glass of lemonade

And last night my friendly neighbor who likes to say hi when she walks her dog was curious as to what I was building in my garage (my coop) lol which I told her was a playhouse for my daughter!!! And I absolutely can't stand fibbing but I have to keep my chickens on the down low. Well she decided to walk up the driveway and tell me what a wonderful job I was doing~ She's like, Your doing this without any instructions... I said yep just figured out how big I wanted it and doing it one step at a time! LOL and as I was trying to walk her to the front of the yard to show her my gardening (diversion) She saw the nest box on the side and said what's that little side for~ I said storage and lunch delivery!!!

Oh man I felt my fib get bigger and bigger... So I walked her up to the porch and showed her this pretty little basket of different kinds of flowers and plants that I made and she was very impressed with all the pretty plants in my front yard. She said she knows who she is going to call if she needs any help building something or gardening advice. She asked "Where is your husband"?? I just giggled and said I got rid of that a long time ago~ LOL I prefer to live a solo life, just me and my kids. She started laughing and said hunny I'm right there with you, just me and my dog. Then she introduced herself (we never exchanged names before) and she said If you have any trouble at all in the neighborhood I'm on the committee so you just let me know or call and they will take care of it.

OMG She is on the COMMITTEE and totally saw my coop/playhouse Bahahaha....

Seriously I just don't know what to say about that. I told her I absolutely love the neighborhood and the neighborhood is great, if there is any complaint it is just about the speeders. But otherwise love it! Well we chatted for another minute and as she walked off she said well I can't wait to see what it looks like when your finished~ Keep up the good work!!

What am I going to do!! LOL So this coop is going to look like a playhouse for Amber and it will have *PINK* curtains and some princess decor all decked out on it. I'll hide the chickens in the garage and make sure I go and get her to show her it before I move the chickens in!!!!

Hopefully that will settle the issue. But what if we become grand friends and she wants to come over all the time. Hens should be legal everywhere!!! Ohhh I just hope everything goes my way

I am still laughing about it but man I hope she is really nice and not just taking snooping to an extreme.

The hawks fly over here but good ole' Jolie barks and chases them so they stay away pretty well. On occasion I find feathers and am thinking that when it is hot they watch from the woods and fly down quick and grab a chick. I let the little roos out to play a good bit and they are just the right size and I seem to be missing a few. But then, it could just be a chicken fight and I am paranoid.

The Guinea is still here and yeah, he is loud but it doesn't bother me. I bet about 20 going off at once would be deafening but so far one is no worse than my roosters crowing. And Guineas do not get under your feet.
He stays close to where I am at for some reason but also will be in one of the open pens in the morning when I go down and is eating his breakfast. He had to have been raised close to people because I can call him and he will answer. If it gets quite for a while I call out "Guinea Bird!" and pretty soon he will answer back and keep going off while moving towards me but he won't get closer than about 20 feet. I talk to him and he seems to like it. Or maybe he is trying to tell me to get some friends for him.

I am so glad someone else has some keets to raise. Mine are due to hatch next week and I haven't raised any before. I'll know to come on here and ask questions when I can't figure something out with them.
KrisH, are you just growing them up in a brooder like chicks? I think I may have to move them to a covered brooder when they are a few weeks old. Won't they start flying?

( crows are very territorial and will run just about anything off no matter what its size..) but I think my son was shooting at the crows in the spring during season... now the hawk is back.. dang nab it....

My Barred Rock roo.. is lets see.. 12 weeks old.. and he is loosing his tail feathers.. hes down to 3... three lonely feathers.. I noticed too that the br girls tails are changing as well.. getting rounder.... is this a normal moult.. will they all go thru this feather loss or is the heat..

he seams fine other wise.. just that ragidy tail..

My fence out back is 6ft high total privacy! Yea it will look like a playhouse and it will totally match my house. It will be really cute. I'm going to start painting it this afternoon. I finished cutting out the walls for it. I just need to either borrow a jigsaw or go buy one to finish the cutouts for the front door, window, and vents. I picked up some awesome vinyl sheet flooring (on clearance!) to put inside the coop. I'm sure by the time I'm done it will have pink curtins in the window to

I won't be able to go to that show because I'm traveling down to Florida for work that week I will be leaving on the 3rd or 4th

But I'm sure we could meet up another time. That would still be fun!

Well my brother just started working for a Railroad Company!! That's why I thought of it he will be checking the tracks (in the heat) making sure they are all working properly!! He's got a hot job~ and to think his previous career he spent most of his time in a freezer! He's in for a harsh atmospheric change
