I thought I would stop by and let everyone see my babies!!!So Here's my little ones...Growing up.
Lucy the SS. Cute chick she thinks she can run with the big girls(but the big girls just wellll don't care for it)

PumPum my little Polish. I just love her and so does everybody else...But I'm afraid she will have to always stay in the grow-up pen cause she is just way to nice and sweet. And I couldn't dare think of anybody hurting her...She is to funny running with her BigHair flying in the wind!!!

Rosie the SLW and PumPum. Rosie is the boss of the mini-coop and is growing up to be more beautiful than I ever thought!

This is my "no name chick"a Blue Wyandotte, still thinking on that! Any suggestion?She's really pretty but all photos of her are not great! and I don't have a great photo of my BlkJG pullet(+thinking)either

Love my little chickens and the Big ones too...
ALSO QUESTION??? How will my young(huge)Rooster do with the younger/much smaller chicks. I'm very slowly letting them all out together. The Hens are sort mean to the chicks, but the Rooster stays clear of them. Will he try to mount them like the big girls cause right now he would crush them. HE's Huge! Or will he know he's not suppose to do that??? Questions Questions Questions!!!!

Blackie is half Dominique. I think his mother was Red Sex Link, but the other option is White Rock. Blackie is very curious about chicks. He waits until the girls are getting close to Point Of Lay before he starts mounting them. When the April girls were about three and a half months old, Blackie started following them. At four months he started mating them. They laid at just under five months. Every last pullet egg was fertile when we had our first Blue Egg Breakfast!

Blackie was a good "uncle" for about a week. He showed the babies how to go to bed and called them to eat. Then he had enough and started pecking them. I put Blackie out to free range and he is MUCH happier. He presents himself at the backdoor every evening for me to open the porch door and let him in. I think he likes sleeping with the ceiling fan going. Spoiled boy! He's a special boy from my first hatch and he just turned two in May.

Oh, Yancy! The girls have grown up so pretty! I am enjoying seeing them here, too. I have been selfish and not let the blue Wyandottes out to free range but those SLW run out of the door before I can stop them and I let the bigger ones stay out.
I am holding a little roo for Kimberly. He is going to be an awesome fella like his dad but then, Jerry, my SLW roo is a fantastic man.
I thnk he is fussing here at teh water cooler (LOL) because the ducks once again beat him to the clean water. Nasty old ducks!

Yancy, I think you should name the blue Wyandotte Nadine!

Call her Naddy or Deana.

I still have the blue JG roo, too. He is growing up so huge. I have a few Black JG girls from that hatch, as well but they aren't the size of him.
I think your JG roo will be nice to the girls until he hits about 6 months old and then his hormones will start kicking in. It always depends on the roo as to how they act with the girls. Some are just crazy and others are very respectful. I love to let mine grow up free ranging with the older hens because they get put in their place when the adolescence rage gets into them. Some roos, like my bantam Cochins, will often just grab any hen close and not even mount her, just grab her to see what reaction he will get. Sometimes they just scream because he isn't the "boss" roo and other hens twist loose and proceed to kick butt. But those little Cochin boys are fast and scoot away quickly when they see the gleam in the hen's eye!
I hope your roo is a gentleman and make sure when he does start mating the hens that he is allowed to that if you are walking by close you just reach over and knock him off, a good push is all it takes. Not meanly or aggressive but just to remind him you are the big chief in command. Or if he gets nasty....the big chef!

He should be fine though. I often just push them off a hen if I happen to be near enough. They look at me like "What the &%*#?" But they also respect my authority.

OHH!! I meant to let yall know yesterday...the wife says she saw my 3 month old Delaware (who she named Farmer, as in The Farmer in the Dell)...anyway, she said she saw him "doing the deed" with one of his 3 mo. old pullets. IS THAT POSSIBLE? I figured he wouldn't start til closer to 4 or 5 months old, BUT he did start crowing last week. He has a nice one, he just doesn't open his mouth so it sounds kind of muffled or like a loud purr. And speaking of my Del pullets, I've got 2 out of 4 that have been squatting for me in the past few weeks so I'm hoping they will plop out an egg soon.

Wow- what a storm last night!!!!! I thought the tree out front was about to get blown inside my house~ did the yard walk and everything survived a few plants and container rolled around and the chickens stayed safe but other than that all is good. My brother's house in Spartenburg got sheets of hail thrown at them and they are still out of power and all communication. They had to leave the area to even use their cell phone. Hope you all stayed safe!
