Strong winds & lots of rain here, last night. I put on some hamburger helper (ew - but that is what Nicole wanted) and we went out to feed everyone and check to make sure we didn't have any escapees (my EE boys love to fly out and wander in the yard on the days I don't let them free range). The winds came up fast and hard. We were in before the rain hit though. I am slow getting up and about today, still gotta run out and be sure everyone has extra treats since I won't let them out today.

It is so funny hearing of everyone fighting the chickens to go up. Mine go right in all but two who want to run around acting like they can't find the door. Those two go in when I come out. Maybe once a week they give me trouble going up, but otherwise just walk towards the pen and they all go running.

ETA: It probably helps since they think I am always going to give them treats. I do that only in the pen, so they must always think they are getting goodies! If I don't throw a little something in there though, I am sure they would run me over to get back out.

Maybe it will be cool today so I can get some pen juggling done.

Time to move more babies around to integrate them with the bigger ones, and get more on the ground out of the brooder.

Yancy - glad your girl is doing better!

She looks like some of my Olive Eggers so she may give you a dark green egg but she could be an EE and is just considered a red, though it looks like she has black in her tail and maybe wings?
With those possibilities she could give you green or blue eggs. I had some chicks that were marked exactly like the SS that have grown up to be EEs or OEs. Surprised me but I should have paid attention more to leg color at the time.

I have a few blue Ameraucanas and EEs growing up now that I am excited about. And I have a few lavender Ameraucanas to work with now. You know you can't visit here too much or you will wind up over your set number! Time to start putting a coop in your parents backyard for your dad!

I found another blue JG roo in a grow up pen. As I thin down my numbers I am finding some awesome birds that I can't let go of. The bigger blue JG roo started crowing about a week ago. It is about time since he is a really big boy! He is dwarfing my blue copper Marans roos but the other blue JG roo looks a lot like the solid blue Marans roo I hatched out. Only the feet color can tell me which is which. As they near breeding age I look at them more closely to see what may be breeding quality. They may be like Langshans and just free range until I want to hatch some eggs out to put back in my laying flock.

Nice pics Yancy! I am glad the girlie is better. You will love whatever color you get from your EE- I love my colorful egg basket.

We got a nice storm here yesterday too, but no damage other than some tree limbs down. One tree limb that had come down Tuesday got picked up by the wind yesterday and it slid down the solar panels, making a nice screeching noise (didn't bust any, thank goodness) and boy, did that ever set all 5 of my adult roosters off! I just happened to be outside checking on The Littles (my name for the group of 8 week olds) when it happened.

I am glad that I found this site.
I have 6 golden comets and the darn things will not go in out of the weather. I'll admit The house is small but they have to go in the house to get into the nest to lay . i will bet they would freeze in the cold . Dumb dumb dumb.
I am getting ready to enlarge the chick house. But is it a useless effort ? will they still choose to stay outside? CRAZY BEASTS. No wonder they get eaten by us Humans!
These storms are really weird. I* have lived in SC for 9 years now and can't remember the weather being like this before.
For those of you in Greenville/Spartanburg. area..Where do you get your chicken feed?
I am using Suber Mill in Greer Sweet family. 50 lbs lasts me about a month with supplimenting with kitchen scraps. And now with the garden coming in,they get giddy when they see me coming with the bucket.

Hold onto your hats (put a chin strap on it) this wind can't last forever .

Yes, I am pretty sure you can post pix now. I can't remember if it is days or posts that they count. Just click on the UPLOADS in the blue up above and make sure your photos are small enough but it does have a resize option. I think ti just takes longer when you submit it if they are too large. Then you copy and post the link in your post.
Somewhere on here there are directions, too. Probably in the FAQ at the top of the Index.

I used to buy from Suber Mill. I do like them but I seldom go into Greer anymore, maybe once a week and then I have too much to do to stop for grain. They are a really nice family and try to keep their prices low.
I get most of my feed at Williams Feed on 357 about a half mile from 176 in Campobello. In the winter I feed other stuff but now with so many seeds and bugs I just fill the hoppers with starter and laying mash. The Guinea keets are getting Sporting bird starter because it is 27% protein.
