Thank you for answering that question! I was hoping for some light interesting color.

Now I need more of them! I only have that one in that color.
I have about 6 or 7 in lavender and love those but I don't feel they will be safe out free ranging like the pearls.
I tell the Guineas all the time I want a dress that looks like their feather pattern. Those pretty little dots and purple sheen on the neck is gorgeous.

I hope I don't get fed up with them once I have more than just one or two making noise. The male hasn't said much of anything since Joy brought the girl but that little girl makes lots of noise. She is ticked off being in the trampoline pen.

Thank you so much! Yep, Ole Big Daddy Roo- my husband and I are still going back and forth on his future, this was the recent discussion...

Me:

He's old and not very fertile, so if he's not making babies he needs to go into the stew pot.

Husband:

You can't get rid of him, he's what started all this! I'll make him his own pen where he can live out his days.

Me: I"m thinking chicken n dumplins

Husband:

You cant MAKE ME eat it!!!

As for the empty nesting and school work- 3 of my 4 kids are grown and gone, the last one in high school so I have gone back to finish my Bachelors in Business Management. Definitely some pros and cons to going to college after the age of 40

Guineas explode when attacked (except at night when roosting--thus owls are their big problem). On another note, did you know if you have pearls breeding with your other colors you will get mostly pearl keets. I do not have any pearls here any more except my French pearls and I still get about 25% pearls from my color pen. Just a thought for those that want different color birds.

I was thinking to just have pearls free ranging and maybe see about keeping some lavenders up in a pen for collecting eggs and selling for baking.
I am not too sure I want to breed them but I may let one sit on eggs if she wants to. I just like the lighter brighter colors in birds and those lavs are definitely cute at this age. Of course, right now I can catch them up and love on them. They don't like it but I sure do!

Once they are older I won't be able to catch them so well and definitely not once they are free ranging, though Guinea boy comes close to me and acts very nice. I guess I will lose his affections once his Guinea girl goes out with him. <sigh>

We ended up at Lowe's, too. We needed five foot high rolls and they had it and the price was a little better than the feed and seed stores. The hardware cloth and poultry netting were a dollar or two less. We did a good bit of comparison shopping and Lowes or Home Depot came out the best.

emptynester! Your DH sounds wonderful! I would so love it if DH would get outside and make a few extra pens for some beloved roos that need to retire. My flock master, Adonis, does not have a sperm count but he is an old man so I don't want to eat him. He really is great in the free range flock but keeps Langshans nerves tore up.

Poor Langshans can't get to use his ....count.....because Adonis sneaks up behind him and scares the bejeebies out of him!
