Girl, you are as bad as I am! I carried a beautiful bruise on my arm for a while but it is healing. Bless your heart, yours is more painful and will certainly take longer to heal! Just don't let the chickens "kiss" your boo-boos! I hope the pain goes away soon and you are feeling better.
Did you take out the end of your finger or just leave the meat in the freezer pkg of squash?

I feel your pain. Sold two silkies this morning. Was trying to be nice and offered them fruit for their trip back home. What did I do? Cut my finger. This evening I went to Lowes and bought some 2x2's to stake up my tomatoes. What did I do? Hit my thumb with the hammer mallet while staking up plants. That kind of day I guess. I need to do some ironing really bad, but I better not....Might be a burn a commin. LOL

It seems that it was a day for painful events. At least I was not alone. I managed to find a nest of yellow jackets and they attacked me to the point that 2 of them followed me in the house and continued stinging me until I managed to kill them. My hand is swollen from fingers up to nearly the elbow and my foot is so swollen that I can barely walk on it. Yellow jackets really hurt, blasted bees!

So, anybody got a good remedy for bee stings or swollen ankles?

AND guess what else I found tonight in my duck nest, yep - another darn snake. The duck just brought her babies out today and this snake was eating the 3 eggs that didn't hatch. And when we were trying to kill it (yes, I kill snakes - sorry to those of you who appreciate them more than I do) it jumped at us and tried to bite us. Dang snakes - I REALLY HATE SNAKES! That makes 3 in barely a week.

So it was a very busy day here, lots of customers. I have one customer who is wanting black chickens.....ummmmm.....to eat. She was honest about it, she can't eat her own birds (too attached

) and she's wanting to buy some to eat. I won't sell mine for meat, so if anyone has some black chickens that are under a year old and you don't mind them becoming someone's dinner - let me know and I'll send her to you. She's wanting 20 or more.

Glad to have you here! I drive thru Walterboro everytime we vacation at Edisto (my favorite place in the world).

OMG, Joy! Something else we have in common! I love the low country and coast lines down there. Edisto is one of our favs, too. And so close to Charleston that when we camped at Edisto State Park we could drive into Charleston for sightseeing or dinner. MOF, that is where we were when the Twin Towers were struck on 9-11!

Yes, we always take one day and go into Charleston, my other favorite place in the whole world. We used to go to Edisto every May and October, don't get to go much anymore. It's enough to make me want to sell a few chickens so I can go back down there. A while back, there was a chicken farm for sale down there and I really considered moving. Only 2 miles from the beach. That would be heaven! Edisto State Park is beautiful.

Joy-sorry about the bees! Since I've gotten chickens I haven't had any yellow-jackets!!! and about the snakes well I'm one of those snake people UNTIL they got in my coop with my girls!!! and yes I too killed the two I've had this year, and if another arrives it dies also. But if the good little(big)snake is not caught in the backyard with the chickens then I let it pass. I am trying to think of a way to catch it and transport it(but really who has the time)....so...well...I use to work in a pet store(many a years ago) and I have even been bitten by a snake(python) and it will scare the bejesus out of you!!!But I try to keep a balance! lol!!!
If you didn't read it, but PumPum my polish is getting a place of her own! Soon to be built and Amy may have a few friends for her(i hope) I can't wait to post pics of PumPum's Palace.(the idea is in my head the work has not yet to be done) But I was thinking of putting sand and DE in the floor of the mini-run what do you use? I need lots of ideas!!!
And anything else about the Polish I need to know!!!

I should have said that these yellow jackets are on my front porch. They've built a nest under a small cabinet and I disturbed them while sweeping the porch. I guess the chickens are keeping them out of the yard. The chickens also come up on my porch sometimes

but I've been keeping the gate closed so the cats can eat in peace. The chickens chase my poor kitties away from their own food bowl.

YIKES! I think I would die from a heart attack if a snake ever bit me. I've had 2 dogs that were bitten in the face by copperheads, emergency vet visits, and thankfully they both survived. I was so proud of them for killing those snakes and taking care of me. I had a customer today (she buys guineas from me every year), she told me that last year her juvenile guineas were still in the grow out pen and they were all in the corner pecking away at something. It was a small copperhead and they had killed it. I sure do love my guineas. I did read that Princess PumPum is getting her own coop and I think she sure deserves it.

If Amy doesn't have enough company for her, just let me know. I have a few chicks growing up in brooder boxes now. I love my polish. My adults are on grass, the polish are surprisingly easy on the ground. I do like sand on the ground when they kill the grass or for a grow out pen. It works great for me, I usually just have to top it off once a year. If it's in the weather, the rain washes it clean and I don't even have to rake it. I have sand in my first duck yard and it was wonderful. They killed the beautiful grass I had for them in only 2 days.

Had to think of something fast to keep me from breaking my neck everytime I walked in there to feed them. Oh, and I too dislike killing anything. I tried the live and let live approach with the snakes for a few years then one day a snake decided to enter my house. That changed my mind very quick. Then when they started attacking my birds.....well, I love my birds. Can't wait to see the new coop when you get it finished.

I'm here in Canadys, SC which is just outside Walterboro. We consider ourselves from Walterboro though since we have to go there for groceries, gas, and everything else we need. We've got a bunch of chickens, 2 dogs, a kitty, and 4 children.

My yellow jackets must have the nests in the old tree stumpes b/c they are EVERYWHERE. My chickens refuse to eat them and the yellow jackets haunt the feeder and waterer. I haven't been able to track them back to their nest b/c it rains every evening and they've already gone in. People suggest guineas. Ammmyyyyyyyy, tell me no!!!!!
