Do I win? This is my husband's ankle yesterday post surgery. 40 year old men should stick to bike riding and not playing capture the flag poaintball when they haven't done more than a jog in 15 years.

Just for fun here are some pictures of my Golden Laced Polish Roo! His name is J.R. Sorry, I just think he is beautiful!

Of course I can not leave these guys out~This is Jester! He is not as photogenic as JR, but I think he is a pretty boy!

This is Claude Van Damme! He was a bit indignant about the photo shoot. He really is a beautiful boy but hard to photograph~he likes to run around through the rest of the flock.

I love these birds!

My yellow jackets must have the nests in the old tree stumpes b/c they are EVERYWHERE. My chickens refuse to eat them and the yellow jackets haunt the feeder and waterer. I haven't been able to track them back to their nest b/c it rains every evening and they've already gone in. People suggest guineas. Ammmyyyyyyyy, tell me no!!!!!

No, no, no! Girlfriend, your neighbors would flat out shoot you! LOL

Mine have been fairly quiet until last night when one of the young Muscovy flew over the fence and couldn't figure out how to fly back to her own pen. At dark when I was closing their coops she was still pacing the fence so I had to go retrieve her. The Guineas had already gotten in the trees behind the barn and when the Muscovy started fussing (they barely make any noise!) the Guineas set up to screaming so you thought there were 20 instead of 2! OMG! I thought they would shake the leaves out of the trees!
So, no! You can't have any because your life depends on it.

Now, if your neighbors would not mind then I would say sure. Wait, I think you have a husband that might have a conniption, too.

I do love the pair here. They flew over the fence the other night when Joy was here. That is the first time I have seen them really fly. It was quite beautiful.

And I have all my keets and about 20 chicks moved into the new brooder. The keets are having a blast flying and jumping all over the place.

Geez! That is truly scary!!! Copperheads are around here a lot and we are so bad not to mow our grass. Well, I would but a certain someone has destroyed the mower. And the benefits of tall grass is my blue Grosbeaks are out for me to enjoy!

Anyhow, I am too trusting because I have had the coop cleaned out so many times this spring (sell manure when you can!) that I now can't see the top level of nests and blindly stick my hand into the nests to feel for eggs. Am I one crazy broad or what???

With all the chickens, ducks and the Guineas usually right there at the barn I feel a snake may be too afraid to go in and up to the nests but really, I should not take that chance.

It is kinda like mice. I like mice, find them to be adorable little creatures and have a hard time feeding those big eyed wild deer mice to my chickens when they get into my feed barrels but you let one get loose and run around my feet and I do the funny dance every time.
I like snakes but you let one poke it's head out at me in the barn and you don't see anything but a dust cloud where I left the scene. I do come back to kill it once I get my nerve back though.

Yellow jackets I haven't seen here yet and the fire ants are only in one spot that I have found this year. I know there are bad things out there with the summer heat so I am anxiously awaiting fall. My favorite time of the year!

How do you manage to have time to write all that on the eggs? Do you write it on there as you collect them or wait until you are ready to set them?

I do write the roo name on the eggs but the date doesn't matter to me as I set them all together what I collected that day as well as week old eggs. I don't want to look at each egg to see when they hatch but that is a good plan. I suppose I could look when I candle them.
I like doing the trays with color coding. It makes for a pretty chart, huh?

Everyone thinks my hutch side wall design is pretty interesting! A magic marker for each tray and hatch and under line the hatcher date!

It is really just what works for each individual. Sometimes it takes a while to get a system set up and then you continue to tweak it along to make it easier for your life.

Amy if you could have come out here you'd see... I don't have any neighbors!!! Well, kinda, but the house across the street is on 18 acres and I've actually never seen her leave. She's old.

Here guinea, guinea, guinea...

Sumagum! That looks painful! But don't tell him I said that. You would never hear the end of it! I am sure he is running you ragged enough.
Thank goodness for your babies!

How is Margot acting since using the meds I sent home with you? Any change? At all?
