Amy if you could have come out here you'd see... I don't have any neighbors!!! Well, kinda, but the house across the street is on 18 acres and I've actually never seen her leave. She's old.

Here guinea, guinea, guinea...

You have to raise them from babies so they will stay at your house. You know I have a few extra babies here......

And yeah, the plan was to come see your place today but you know how that went!

Sumagum! That looks painful! But don't tell him I said that. You would never hear the end of it! I am sure he is running you ragged enough.
Thank goodness for your babies!

How is Margot acting since using the meds I sent home with you? Any change? At all?

Ugh the babes are so stinkin cute!
Seeing some interesting feather patterns so
Hoping for frizzles!!!! And blrw pullets too.

Margot isn't doing well at all. She's on her side with one leg stretched way out. I pick her up and she tries to bounce like a baby on both feet but I put her down and she rolls over. Since DH is laid up, how am
I going to do the deed? :-(

Is the bigger one a boy? They hit a growth spurt and leave the girls behind for a while.

I don't think the bigger one is a boy. Of course, they could have been wrong when they sold her, but she did feather in at the same rate. I skipped yogurt today and went bearing scrambled eggs with oatmeal in them. No one cared for them last time but today was a different story. I kept Lacey with the others, just made sure she got extra. At first she was taking the egg and getting the oatmeal pieces out of it-silly chicken. She seemed to have caught up a little since yesterday. It amazes me how fast they grow. As for being at the bottom of the pecking order, they have a stump they get on during the day. Lacey was sharing the highest part with another pulley who we think is a leader. I will post pics from today later.

The eggs and oatmeal will be great for her! I think this rain is really causing some health issues for my chickens. I was thinking about it yesterday and I guess this is the first year that it's really been wet since I started keeping chickens. We had an 8 year drought, so everything was so dry for so long. I'm having to learn about keeping chickens healthy in mud! I hated the drought, but did not miss mud.

I agree! First time to keep chickens. Get them as babies, in JUNE at that, and then have an unseasonably hot June and now rain every day. We are learning a lot! At least they are smart enough to go in the coop when it is hot and we think, when it rains (Lou Ann didn't see them outside when it started yesterday). We are going to draw straws over who is coming home at lunch Tuesday to make sure they okay since it will be in the upper 90's again. She is off tomorrow and I am off Wednesday.

Jackie, I may have to come down to help you or if you head back up here bring her. I was afraid the treatment may have been too late to do her much good. Her spirits were up to be so pitiful looking. And what a cutie she is, too!

to the snakes. They just stink.

Now on to the bites. My doctor last week told me to take a Claritin 24-hour every morning so I have antihistamine in my system at all times. Since I get bit by something a lot, he thinks it will help. I'm thinking your yellow jacket bites felt like my wasp bite. My bite was almost two weeks ago and I still have a huge, inflamed scab from it. Ugh! One thing I have found that works for most bites (but you have to do it right away) is to make a paste of a bit of water and red pepper flakes. I might have already posted this. Mix it up to a paste as soon as you get bit and put it on the bite(s). I leave it on for about 10-15 minutes. Something in that draws out the poison and makes the resulting bite much less potent. It honestly works for me! My mother-in-law said her grandfather swore by it. As soon as I know I'm bit, I head in and do it. It really helps!

Why does that customer just want black chickens to eat? Very odd!

Lost a 4-mo old Ameraucana today. Just dead in the run. I thought I saw a few yesterday having diarrhea. I spent a lot of time with them today and none look or seem ill. All were drinking and eating. Hoping it's just the heat and not the dreaded Cocci! I'm so over this weather!
