OK.........really no point in candling until day 18, IMHO

7 days you cannot see anything much but maybe blood veins & a dark dot. It has taken me forever to be able to tell what is what just by looking at the eggs. And if they are not light colored, I still cannot see anything. Especially blue, green or dark chocolate colored eggs!

10 days you can see a little more.

Day 18 you can tell if it is good or not. I won't remove any from incubator or crack any open til day 18 for clears & day 24 for good ones that did not hatch - unless I can tell it is alive & in distress and needs help.

I would be referring her to the page that shows pictures of candling here on BYC.

ETA: If I spend that much on eggs they WILL stay in the dang bator with me telling them to grow grow grow.....until day 18

Yes, I often do not candle until I put them into the hatcher tub but was just wondering as I know some people will candle throughout incubation. I can never see anything until after 10 days myself.

I just saw a message from usps that Joy got her eggs. Hope they made it in good shape!

I do sometimes.......if I am bored. That is how I learned what to look for.

Of course DD says I candle all day every day

Usually I am just misting duck eggs though!

Yes! And this from a woman that I have heard goes through a lot of batteries in her candling light!

I was just floored that someone would not wait at least 2 weeks into an incubation to make sure nothing was going to be a slow starter.

However, I like to share my experiences with you all in case you need the entertainment or want to feel like you aren't the only one dealing with folks like this.

I still have not heard from the woman that wanted the guinea keets today. I thought from our emails that she would get them early due to the heat. I caught them this morning and held them until about 1:00 but they are too young to set in a box all day without food and water. This is one of the worst things about selling to people. It is too hot to mess with them now. Does this ever happen to other people? She has my phone number! Oh well, just venting...

On another note, I just got in from giving all the chicken pens cold water melon. They are sooo happy!

. Really a lot do not realize what goes into getting the animals ready for pickup. Including catching and caging them separately.

You are right, I just assumed since she already has guineas that she would understand what I was saying....
