Joycats...where do you live? Town/area wise, not specifics. I am cautious about letting people know my exact location also....as so many different kinds of crimes going on these days. Not just for theft, but as a woman home alone most of the day, every day during the week. Being in a rural setting offers little protection or safety.

I am right off of I-85 at exit 60 between Greenville and Spartanburg. I am pretty isolated and like you spend most of my time home alone with my kids. Now my oldest is 16 and he's a big boy. He does watch out for me. My friend that just lost her birds to theft lives in Easley in a subdivision.
PICTURES FROM THE 2011 FALL PALMETTO POULTRY PARTY!! Our friend Kelly, who was there helping us, took these pictures. The pics that 4H took should be coming soon, hopefully!

Joy, that sounds scary!
As most people know I have gates down at the end of my driveway at the road. My nosy neighbors are very close to my gates and driveway so that helps me out. And having a big dog helps some, too. I only open my gates when I am expecting someone.
I have had birds stolen from me but that was before I got a dog and my neighbors were not as vigilant as they are now. With everyone having new outside dogs and the people that are up all night anyhow, including my DH, we are more protected. I hope we never have to put buckshot in anyone's rear ends but any of us around here would if we had to.
I am getting to where I am not wanting to let anyone come down into my barnyard to see my birds either. There are many reasons, ones we have mentioned on past posts but also to keep others from seeing the lay out and what all I really have.
Although I do love to show off my birds, I am worried about folks I know nothing about around my farm.
BTW, my neighbor behind me has pit bulls chained right next to my fence and he said he came out one night because the dogs were making a terrible racket. He thought maybe a possum was out trying to get to their food or something but could have swore he saw a person running along the edge of his woods. It was really too dark to tell much and he blinked a few times trying to get his night vision and then it was gone. My neighbor has "issues" anyhow so I am not sure what to believe.
I dislike him having these dogs and letting them breed so much but I am rethinking it. For my own sake.
Love the photos! Glad everyone got to meet everyone! It was sad that Betsy could not make it though.
Joy, I think the Guinea girl has a nest somewhere! She didn't come to supper last night, only Guinea boy cam by himself. This morning she was out with Guinea boy eating but then disappeared again and Guinea boy came into the coop and stayed for a while by himself. So I take that to mean she is on a nest somewhere. I keep reading about when a hen goes on the nest the male will stay near her. Some how I am thinking Guinea boy didn't read the same material.
