I don't live near Columbia and I don't have pullets for sale. But come on in and put your feet up and tell us more about yourself and your birds.

I just got this off my Duck and Goose forum........

"I had a pediatrician tell me what she believes is the best way to

I don't get ticks on me, last time was about 10 or 15 years ago. But for those of you that go hiking or don't have those miraculous and fantastic Guineas this may be just right for you.

Time to do chores and get ready to head to class this afternoon. Nobody do anything fun or exciting while I"m gone! Wait- on second thought, carry on, just be sure to document all the fun and excitement so I have something to brighten my day tomorrow when looking at the large amount of homework that will be due.

You would think that by going to a college that has a phoenix as it's logo there would be a lot more discussion about chickens....

Well, I am setting here in a house with no electricity--my computer is in battery mode and who knows how long that will last! I appreciate and I am enjoying the bird health information people have posted today. I had not heard of the Ivermectin under the wing and appreciate that info now that I have the silkies. I have not had a problem with mites or lice but that does not mean I will not--it only takes a bird with them to hang out in the wrong place.

Amy, I do feed DE to my birds on a daily basis. I have heard lots of peoples thoughts and concerns about it but we did have a case of gape worm last year and I have fed it every since. I do not know if it really helps with parasites but when I slack I feel I see more health issues such as cocci. I also put it in nests and dusting holes.

I us to use ACV regularly but now I have automatic waters so only the bird running around free really ever get any. I do give it to young chicks and keets sometimes as it seems to perk them up after hatching.

Sulmet--I love it! I do not feed medicated feed except to the keets and that is only because I can not get a high protien feed for them without it. I really feel that the chicks I have raised on medicated feed in the past were not as healthy as the one I raise off it. All simply my opinions and take it with a grain of salt. I really do enjoy hearing others ideas and methods!!

Oh yes! DH let me turn the incubator back on for the deserted guinea eggs I pulled out of the nest earlier this week(well, he thinks he made the decision)! Three keets have hatched from them so far!! I need more keets!!

Ok folks..I need some advice. I mentioned last week that I was trying to integrate some pullets into my "big girl coop" where I keep my layers. It has been a nightmare. It's been right at a week since I put them in there and out of the five I added, I've had to move 3 back out to the barn. They are getting torn up. One girl I was afraid might not make it they got her so bad. I just had to pull another one out this morning because she now has a big gash on the back of her neck. What in the world do I do?? I put one of my big roo's in there trying to see if it'd help. He's fine in there..but it hasn't helped my little pullets at all. (FYI..the only reason I put them in there is because they've reached at least the size of the hens I already have if not bigger) I have two buff orp mixes and they are being SO mean. Do I just pull them all back out and wait til they're older? This is such a pain...I can't leave them in there once they're hurt because then the others really wont leave them alone.

I wanted to try the Backyard Chicken folks first before going to total strangers on Craigslist. I trust the people here to be honest and sell me healthy birds!
