Wow..talking chickens ...for ...hours? I don't know if I'll ever evolve to that point..I don't think I can retain that much experience/knowledge/imformation. At this age...49..all I can retain...is water!!

Hon, I am in the same boat. Staring 50 in the eye and wonder why in the world I don't lose all this weight when I sweat constantly outside. At the height of the summer I had 700 chickens and was working my tail off (or so I thought but it's still there, big as ever) and eating very little, drinking lots of water and juice, no sodas or even tea. Still, I am so fat I feel more like I am wattling around the farm like the ducks. IMO, I should be as slender as when I got married 31 years ago.

And yes, you will talk chickens for hours once you have had them a while, raised a few chicks and want more breeds.
Besides, anyone who knows me knows it doesn't matter the subject. I can yak on for a long time!

Omg...700??...you said ...700 ...chickens!!!! ????

I want them to live! But I know it will not always happen.

I guess because I have not had any really get sick, yet, I can still look at things from the point of view that I do. I did have my BLRW hen have an issue with her foot, so I separated her and gave her time to heal. She is back 100% 2 weeks later.

I do more for my silkies than any other breed I have. I guess because eventually I will narrow down to only 3-5 breeds to keep and work with.

I do bend over backwards for the ducks. Those are Nicole's and I will do whatever it takes to save one if I have to. Which is the reason she did everything she could to save that chicken for me - it was a silkie.

I have a "pet" pen. Which is actually with my layers. That is where I cull most birds to, such as silkies, that do not meet breeding standards, or if I have too many of a variety, etc.

Just because I cull, does not mean I kill. When I cull from silkies, I just remove them from my breeding program., either because of quality or because I have too many.

We need to cull our nanny goats - trust me, we won't be killing those either.

They will be sold.

Plastic waterers I have. I have a few feeders. Don't use them for my layers. I throw the feed on the ground. They can scratch around. I also found I feed them more that way, and I am not lugging a 15lb feeder around to refill it.

I"m glad my next two classes are math so I don't have to write a while- sheesh! I keep wanting to get together before class, but lately I have had meetings scheduled at 5 which means I am cruising by your exit about 3:45. Maybe we can meet for lunch one Thursday about 1:30 -ish?

Oh, that was you??? I thought the church down the road was just having choir practice outside!

Getting the baskets ready to put in the raffle tomorrow. I have had several emails from folks making sure I will be making these again this year. It is only up in Arden, a 45 minute drive but they do not come down here to get peaches, they prefer I bring them up there.

Here is one with Mary's excellent creamed honey!

And one with Frog jam.....

We made 4 in all to take plus just one basket of just peaches.

I am lucky to live 2 miles from the local peach orchard where my mom and I went to pick peaches......ehem, 40 years ago.

Little did I know then that I would be living 2 miles from there. Funny how life works that way.

I am up where the peach orchards are at the old Fisher Brothers Farm on Mt Lebanon Rd, north of Greer. About 20 miles from Paris Mtn State Park.
Although I grew up right there at Piedmont Park, went to the Methodist church, Paris Elementary and Sevier Middle when it was built the first time.

Nice to see you on our SC thread! Jump in and tell us about yourself!

It was me. After 3 days of me banging on all the windows and doors of Heaven and yelling "Jesus Help!" at the top of my lungs- they were all grateful for the peace and quiet!

Amy Nadine, Those are some nice baskets!

Those aren't mottled cochin eggs in there are they? Not that I would begrudge anyone wanting any, I know I can't wait to get my hands on some myself!

Redbug- I haven't seen Rio yet, though I hear it is cute. We will definitely have to try and plan some time together. Can't be letting Amy Nadine and Joy have all the fun!!
