Hey @Amy I think my little black frizzle is a roo! I'll take a better pic when I get home but the bugger already has a sweet little pink comb. So that makes 4 roos and 2 pullets. Drat! To Craigslist they go! Unless ya'll want some cute little smooth frizzle bantam cochins (man we need to shorten that title up!)

I asked the vet who owns the clinic I work at what to do. He proceeded to pull out a GINORMOUS book and babble on about different meds for like..ehh...15 minutes. LOL Anyways, I think I'm gonna try using Ponazaril orally on the one pullet that just isn't gaining much weight for the coccidia. Gonna have to deworm everybody too. Sheesh...and I have one pullet with an abcess on her head from being attacked by my original hens. I should use this as an opportunity to say that I am SOO glad I work at an animal hospital.

& that I work for a vet who has an amazingly good memory and can remember poultry stuff from way back when he was in vet school (before I was born haha). We learned the basic poultry stuff in my vet tech program but not near as much as I wish we had! Hope everyone's enjoying a break from the heat! It's definately not near as hot here as it has been

and I have taken my birds in to my boss a few times for issues. I still have cocci around I believe. I'm sure you know how it is. The only way to completed eradicate it out if the soil is to well... Move your house!!

Okay well the oocysts are going to always be lurking around. I think what you need to do is mainly get a handle on the problem so the levels of the parasite are where the birds can fight it. I treated mine for 10 days rather than 5. Skipped a couple days. Went another 5. Waited a couple weeks. Then followed up with another 5. I had birds pooping blood all over my porch for days and they were so sick when I first started that they were hiding under my neighbors bushes half-dead. I had to go over there to retrieve them.

I had 1 die but the others recovered. Through the whole ordeal I was bleaching out their totes daily until I got them into a coop. I found out my brooder had cocci too. Yuck. I was lucky I caught it early before they got sick.

So I still try bi weekly to bleach all the items in my brooder and everything. It needs to be cleaned anyway but I am paranoid!
