Slackers!!! It's hot today. I miss the weather of a few days ago.

My dad saw a cougar in the Camden area about 5 years ago. He said it was very dark in color. Dnr said it was more likely a runaway pet than a wild one but didn't mean that they weren't in the area.

It was hot today. We had a storm come close to cool things down a bit but no rain from it. The grass is starting to get brown now.

Another 2 weeks and we should not see 90 any more and the rains should pick up a bit.
Yeah, yeah, I know, climate change and all that garbage....Puleeeeze....I have lived here all my life and it is all normal still. I've seen summers this hot and winters very cold and snowy. Nothing has been any different here for the past 40+ years that I remember weather. And I look back at photos from when I was a baby and before. This is all normal. Unbearable sometimes but normal!

While it was cooler outside I ran out and finished up my chores. Now all I need to do is put up chicks and ducklings, feed the horse, feed the dog, close all the pop doors and close up the coops. That should only take me about an hour.
I might get part of it done before picking DD up from work.
Oh! She has given her notice at work. She said she is going to try and keep all A's this year so has given up her job. She also broke up with her boyfriend to concentrate on school. She doesn't want to see a B on her report card. Wonder how long she will hold out?

She has already had 2 tests this week and had to turn in an essay today. The first week of school. Cool beans, baby!

Many, many moons ago......okay, back when I was a kid, my sister and her DH got a cougar as a pet. They live on Lake Murray and often let the big cat out to run and play (she lived indoors with them). On occasion she would get out of eyesight and they would go look for her. One day they heard someone yelling and ran over to the cove only to see a man standing chest deep in water and the cat (named Fang, no less!) on the shore looking at him. Now the cat wore a collar with tags but the man was so shocked to see a cougar coming towards him he just threw down his fishing rod and ran into the water.

My BIL paid him for his ruined clothes and shoes. The man got a small chuckle out of it and had a great story to tell people. After that they built a pen for Fang to hang out in so she would not scare anyone. And there was a cow pasture beside them so they were worried Fang might want to wander over there one day and get shot.

I sent this message today.

I have had a few days to think about this situation. I recollect no mention in our prior correspondences of you mentioning to me that I would have to pay for a "replacement silkie." I have saved all of your e-mails. I am hurt that you would even ask of me to pay for shipping of a new bird when this was clearly your mistake. To me, this has me questioning the quality of the new silkie you will send. I am willing to accept a refund in the amount of $50 which is 1/4 of the total cost.

Hello everybody - just thought I'd share what I got in the mail today! EGGS!! I couldn't resist, I ordered some white crested blue polish eggs. I'm so excited I can hardly stand it. I know I should have waited until I gave this new incubator a good try but the price wasn't bad and I really want some of these birds. I have a lot of faith that this incubator is going to do great, I'm sure it'll be better than what I've been getting from my still air bators.

Redbug - I am so excited to say that I have veins in the eggs you sent. I didn't put them in my incubator, I put them under some bantam hens that I had sitting. I know they will do good with them. I'll keep you posted.

Yancy, your babies (big ones and little ones) are so cute! I know what you mean about not being able to touch them. That's the one thing I miss when the hens raise the babies. I love holding them. I also feel like the chicks that I handle are friendlier adult chickens and they're not afraid of me. But the hens do a lot of work so I guess it's a fair trade off in the end.

Hope you all have a great weekend. Saturday is a work day for me. Lots to do around here in between customer visits. I hope we all have a productive and predator-free weekend. As if coyotes and snakes aren't bad enough, I'll be watching for bears now. Those pictures have my brain spinning. Fingers crossed for nice temps or at least a little breeze.
