I have more photos but thought these might be the best to show. Other than the whole kit and kaboodle of them. And yes, I do put my chicks on newspaper right out of the hatcher. There is chick starter on the floor and I do not get chicks with spraddle leg from having them on this for a few days. If I ever see one with spraddle leg, it hatches out that way. I'm just saying.....

Awww....those are beautiful keets! And I can't wait to hear what Heidi says about the colors. I will say a small word of warning on the newspaper, just be careful as guineas seem to be much more prone to spraddle leg. It is a sad thing when it happens and it cannot be fixed. I've seen a few chicks and a few guineas with spraddle leg - guineas are different.

Thank you for the compliment, they came from Red Bug Poultry mostly. There are a few from Bargain in there but most of them are Heidi's stock. Keets are just so adorable and I love all the light colored ones. The dark ones are great, too but if they lay and brood like the girl I got from Joy then I will have bunches and bunches of them on the farm. I can just see the Muscovy taking over a nest of Guinea eggs and hatching them!

I have fire ant hills! They came up after last rain. My free range roos were eating some, but stopped. Couple weeks ago I put my guineas out....they do not get far from the turkeys though.

Still too young really - just losing the keet down from the heads.......

What color? Both are spotted.

ETA: I need more guineas!

Super cute! That's interesting to know about the newspaper. I ordered 30 assorted guinea keets from Welp in July. I have NO IDEA what colors they are! Some look lavender and some look white. I'm assuming that's a color. And then I have others. I'm down to 24 though. Not sure what happened to a few of them.

Jolie was acting all weird when a man came and bought some ducklings last night. I couldn't understand her pacing back and forth in front of me and when he was here she just laid on the ground with her head down. Crazy and not like her AT ALL! But I suppose she felt it coming on last night.

We often get shakes here. But I don't usually feel them. Freaky!

Thanks, Joy. Always good to remember about newspaper. This is my third hatch this year and so far so good! I do not recommend it to others but so far I have had good luck using it with my chicks and keets. Of course, as soon as they go down to the barn they are on feed bags made of that woven nylon.
I have read that more than spraddle leg they actually have a twisted leg. Can't remember all the details but something about a leg being twisted and it is called something medical (which is why I can't remember it!).

I got out to the farm this morning and found a ton of black feathers in my B/B/S Marans coop.... and a hen missing.

I cannot figure out what happened. Couldn't see where it got it. There's a teeny little space above the screen door but the screen door looks fine. The body was not there except a piece of bone. Ugh! I put a tarp over the door and onto the top of the run and ziptied it to the wire run. It won't be getting in that way. Cole will have to fix it when he gets back on Sunday. I also found a dead guinea. Guess it had its little ole head poking out through the wire. The body is there but the head is gone. We used chicken wire at the back instead of hardware cloth because there's a pasture fence right behind it. First time I've lost anything on the side of the runs.

I hate predators. Think we're going to get any rain from Irene. I was hoping but it's looking more and more doubtful.

At what age do you let your guineas free range? I had two keets and let them out at 12 weeks but the hawk got them. I had already ordered my current keets before it happened. I thought they'd be fast enough to escape. Now I have all these babies and don't know what to do with them. I'm wondering if there's a size when they'll be safe from the hawk. It does get my hens but the guineas seem more adaptable to the outdoors and more aware than those hens ever did. In a quandry!

Well the good news is apparently no one was injured. Damage is minor. Only reported damage is to a school in Mineral, VA, and the National Cathederal in DC.

I grew up hearing about the Great Quake in 1886 in the area of Charleston, SC. The worst I had experienced prior to today was a four-something five or so years ago. Once again I thougt a huge truck was bouncing down the road. Then I realizes the intensity was growing and it lasted for over a minute.

Remember, for next time or this time's aftershocks: do NOT run outside. Pick a doorway and stand still. When the shaking stops, then go inspect. Check you book and dish shelves NOW to insure things are where they are supposed to be.

Awww! Look at your Guineas, Kimberly! One looks lavender and the other may be Pearl but I am not sure. It could be Royal Purple. They are too juvie for me to know much. I am still learning a lot. Heidi will know.

I have some that age but mine are still in the wire bottom brooder. My 7 lavenders and one dundotte will go into a pen and my Pearls will go out with Guinea Boy. He has been going into the coop and staying with them during the day since his "wife" is on the nest. I don't want to let them out yet since they can be difficult to get back up and right now I don't have the time or energy.
