Yes, I need to cut the water in half but tonight I was in such a hurry to get it mixed I just didn't bother thinking about it anymore. Thanks! I hope you feel better. My son had to take Robitussin at night to stop the cough so he could sleep. He is feeling much better but still can't get rid of that cough.

I am so sorry you are getting rid of your gold laced cochins, I know you really liked them! I feel bad that my birds are undersized but all three are well over bantam weight. My two pullets I saved back this season are small for LF cochins but are already over the bantam weight. I did have a good discussion with a few people on the cochin thread and unfortunately LF silver and gold laced cochins do tend to be under weight for the show standards. I have save back 2 pullets crossed with the buff hens I sold you and hope to put some size in my golds. I know it will mess up the lacing for a while but I guess I will see what happens. Hope all your chickens find good homes!

On another note, we got rain last night! And I have spent all morning cleaning up after it! My silkie's tarp dropped from water (which I really thought I had enough angle to it for that not too happen) and now several of the white silkies are a mess! It must have come in with wind because many of the feeder were full of water in under the roofs. Poor babies, my yard birds were walking around soaked!!

Well, I hear the rain coming down again--we do need it! DH is needing my attention also so I am off!! Everyone have a good, safe day!

I don't know whether to be like the chickens & be mad cause of all the rain today, or be like the ducks and love it!

My yard is flooding. Ducks are having a ball. Chickens are huddled in the house sleeping the day away.

They should both be laying. That's weird. Are the Columbian Rocks laying? Are those with your mom?

Columbians are both laying and Mary Beth is .. none from Sherry Ann yet and only the one EE...

I don't know who laid the shell less egg.. should I be worried about who laid it? and watch for something to be wrong.. I just figured it must be one of my young girls who just arn't in the swing of laying yet? that and being new and all..

the Columbians are giving me big pink eggs.. not brown and not white but a light shade of pink, really pretty.. I didnt expect that at all a very pleasant surprise..

I've been very lucky and have never had any problems with my teeth.. dentist scare me.. I've been twice in my whole life.. each time they hurst me so I never went back.. I sure home they gave you meds for pain when you get home My husband has problems with his teeth and they make him super doper grumpy.. good luck and heal fast

I am soo glad for the rain.. we need it soo badly here in hickory tavern.. having my skinny boys stay up and eat all day instead of being out.. figure its a good day for them to stay in and just fill they're bellies.. the big girls are wandering in and out of the hen yard Colt and i made the other day.. so glad we did it, makes a big difference. they don't mind the spritzing but they high tail it back into the coop when rain drops fall.. silly girls..

humm... was just adding up who and what I have.. I have 23 hens of different ages and breeds-- getting 6 eggs a day.. hummm someone needs to bump up the production... and then I have 9 rosters of different ages and breeds..

so would you say I am succeeding at chicken math or do I still need more???

I know this spring I am ordering 25 Barred Holland chicks.. and I promised my mom when we sell all her breeding stock dogs I will get her frizzel sizzles..
I think I better stop there..

Went to the dr with mom yesterday and she has multiple bone spurs on her neck and the dr foresees lots of pain in the future.. she has degenerative discs in her neck and lower back, hardly any padding left at all.. and she is very concerned about her knees.. Hips are good though, so not too bad for 76 yrs old.. but she did tell mom its time to get out of the dog business and that she needs to stop getting down on her knees to clean cages etc.. shes worried she will try to stand up and her knees give out and with her living alone thats a scary thought. even with us next door. it could still be a few hours till we know there is a problem.. I hate it for her she really loves her dogs and has work hard on her bloodline. but she hasn't even bred them in over a year because she couldn't handle the extra work load of puppy and mom upkeep in the house.. so its time..

oh here is the flyer I am making up for the dogs just in case you know someone...

Guys and Gals I've got question for you.

I'm thinking about adding some Marans to my flock. Accually I've been thinking about it all year but can't make up my mind. I'm at 90% sure I want some but I read ever once in awhile about someones chickens are either under size or their eggs are not very dark brown and that kind of kills the point of having Marans for me. I really want cuckoo's but they seem to have the most faults I read. If I do it and get some I want to have nice birds, they dont have to be perfect.

So where would you buy or who would you buy from; and I'd really like to purchase from some one in the up state if possible so I can go pick them up. I do not trust the mail service to many horror stories and with the PO about out of money that does not make me feel any better. I can wait a bit longer as I've dragged my feet all year so if there is going to be some at the Clemson Poultry Show I'd be happy to pick some up there. Thanks for any help. Donald

Don, it depends on who you get your birds from as to what size and color of eggs you will get. I have had the best results from Whitmore Farms. Granted, mine are over 3 years old now and were hatched from eggs but I keep raising them up and trying to hang on to what I can of the girls.
I do have some new blooded ones growing up from another bloodline so I will see what theirs are like next spring. So far they are beautiful but I really care more for the color and size of the eggs, plus some good meat factors. Beauty is nothing without a real purpose.
Okay, yeah, having said that I do love my little d'Uccles! Worthless but so sweet and loving and B-U-T-ful! They don't mind my kisses too much.

The Clemson Poultry show in Nov. is bantams only but there may be people selling other breeds. I have always had a Guinea Pig/rabbit show that weekend so this will be the first time I will get to attend since we are not going to many shows any more with the piggies.

It maybe better if I wait till spring and hatch them myself. I guess it's getting to late for hatching or chicks now. We had a couple nights already in the 40's up here on the mountain. I would really be interested in knowing how yours turn out.

When I say nice birds I talking about they look like a Maran and not a factory mix breed mut like some of the Dominique chicks I got. Brown eggs are the biggest reason I want Marans and I just like the Barr Color chickens. I may deside on the black copper for Marans as they seem to be more reliable for brown eggs and true to type. But the egg and meat thing is a big factor with me for sure.

I read some where the Clemson Show there were some people talking about doing a chicken swap so I thought there was more than just the bantams going to be there. There is also a guy trying to put a chicken stock together down in Agusta in November as well. I may have a better chance to find a breeding pair or some hens at that show so all is not lost.
