Neither do drakes, my boy quail, nor any pullet not laying

Matter of fact, I think it applies to all poultry not just chickens....but ducks & guineas too

ETA: Which means I don't have any guineas and only 6 ducks

I almost had no turkey today - SOMEONE was standing in the road earlier

.....which was good til the guineas noticed and stopped pecking at the ant hill to run catch up with the turkey.

Luckily we do not have much traffic on our road - of course when what traffic we have is usually going over the posted 25 mph speed limit.

I opened the front door & yelled get back in your yard

Was not even thinking the turkey does not understand like my dog does.

BUT it came running to the porch followed closely by the guineas & other turkey.

Don, I should have chicks and will definitely have eggs for sale. The chicks and birds sell pretty quick, even the roosters.

Which is a couple of times a year at least, for me.

Mine always starts with itching somewhere. I pretty much have my reactions down so I know about how long after the itching starts before I can't breathe. Terrified is when you can't find the Epi-pen after the itching starts.

The allergic reactions are very scary. For me, it always starts with palms of my hands and the bottoms of my feet itching. If that happens then I know I am in trouble. I swell up like a puffer fish. Thankfully I haven't done that in a long time, but I quit taking drugs. I have my asthma med that I need but otherwise I don't do antibiotics or antihistamines at all anymore. I tend to be allergic to things that I shouldn't be like antihistamines. They are what most people take to eliminate the allergy but they make me have hives. Thank goodness I've never needed the epi pen but I do have one. I've gotten pretty good at knowing "that feeling" and I can take a prednisone right away to stop it from getting too bad.

Joycats, if I had a doctor that would hand me a bottle of prednisone I could probably do without the antihistamine everyday. However, I know I'm allergic to cats and I have these three wonderful kitties from Amy's barn. And I happen to like to breathe, so it's to the medicine cabinet every night.

So far the worst reaction I've had was a spider bite. We suspect it was a Black Widow baby. The Navy hospital really jumps to when you say you are having trouble breathing. I did feel sorry for the guy with the broke finger that had arrived ahead of me, until the venom really hit my system and I thought I was dying in the 20 minutes I waited for that pain shot! You suspect you might live when you start critiquing the makeup on the various staff members that stop in to see you!

My epi-pen lives in my purse. DH knows where the secondary and expired pens are. If anything ever goes seriously wrong with me, I want DH right there. He's usually a level headed guy.

Amy, maybe your husband can call my husband some day and explain why I need more poultry!

better personality than even my BR which I think are great.. barred Hollands are white egg layers, they are just a tad smaller than my BR's, get alone with EVERYONE.. she lays everyday.

she thinks shes a dog and if I don't close the door in time she'll come on in the house.. the barring inst as dark as the BR.. more of a silver/grey bar instead of the black bar against the white. single comb..

Jett my barrred Holland and my wht leghorn are the same size.. built alot alike too.. leaner not so heavy like my BR .. I wish you could meet Jett she is wonderful.. seams silly to comment on a chicken like she was a dog or a child.. my husband says I spoil my chickens like I do my dogs and how he cant believe she doesn't sleep in my room at night on the bed with the poodle and chihuahua..

hummmm i did think about it. they make those chicken diapers.. ahhah I think if i did that he would have me institutionalized .

I defently would be interested in chicks or eggs next spring. I think I will hold off adding any young birds now as it's starting to get cold up here. Will you put a notice here or should I watch the swap/sales thread as well. And thanks to all who replied to my questions. Donald
