It is most unlikely that a double yolker will hatch. Having said that, you can look on You Tube and see if you can find the video of a lady that hatched out a double yolker. MOF I think she was from here on BYC so you could probably search the archives for a thread on it.
They may develop but usually die in the shell. None of my double yolkers even developed when I tried them years ago.
Yancy and Jackie, guess what I finally found??????
The keet I lost yesterday had Terry in a panic as he really wanted Slate Guineas. (Imagine that!) When I told him that I looked for it in the brooder and could not find he went all crazed on me and tore the brooder room apart searching for it. He pulled out all the brooders and tore all the insulation away from the walls (it was pretty well holey anyhow) thinking it was stuck back in the walls. He searched all over and was very upset when he could not find it. I had already looked before he came down to the barn to help with chores but had not tore out the walls!
So this morning I looked all over again while I was cleaning up the mess he left (is anyone surprised?
) and still could not find it. I did find one that must have gotten out overnight and was in the sweet feed bag.
But as I was putting the tools back on the lower shelf in the corner I noticed where the outside wall had separated from the frame and it seemed big enough a keet may could have gotten through so I went around the back of the barn and sure enough, there was my little slate sitting in the weeds. It wasn't very wet at all, even though we had that big rain last night but I have more than 12" overhang off the roof in the back so I guess it stayed dry during the night. But I heard it was supposed to get down in the 50's last night, not that my thermometer said that when I got up at 7 am. But I scooped it up and put it back in with the others, covered the top with tons more wire and it snuggled under the heat lamp and ate some food. I hope it does well!!!
I have a big cage drying now and will move them all into there so it will not be able to get out. They are big enough now that I think a wire sided cage with the heat lamp on top may be okay for them. If it gets out of this cage I will name
her something strong. Maybe Hercula......
