Sure thing! You all are so funny. I guess the D'uccles are a well kept secret. I tried to tell Amy a while back that she needed some when I saw her mille fleur cochin project and she didn't think she wanted any then. (I also told her she needed guineas

) The mille fleur d'uccles were the first bantam breed that I raised and they are my love. The bloodline that I have came from a friend in California and she got them from a very reputable breeder who raised them to show. I forgot to tell you that my little mille hen that was shown at the Fair last weekend won a blue ribbon. I'm so proud.

Will do - what age do you prefer to get them? It takes a few weeks to tell the gender but I can tell these earlier than most. You're added to my list.

I may want/need to get on that list, too!

Lol, I was waiting on you to say that! I think you need to, also. I want to be able to visit and see these chickens and see if I can convince Randy to let me have a coop for bantams since Lou is out of space. Maybe, if I promise not to get an incubator and start hatching my own he will eventually go for it...

My gosh! I just popped in to catch up and see that Yancy's photo spurred a ton of excitement here!
He should have snapped one of the Porcelains, as that is what I am most interested in but Yancy loved the Mille Fleur. Millie is an excellent representation of the breed. His sister, not so much but I will see what she will produce.

These little creatures are totally personality plus! As Joy has already mentioned. They are super soft, as I encouraged Yancy and Jackie to pet them and reaching out to pick one up is easy, mine stand right there for a scoop and hug, plus a few kisses. Well, the roo isn't as pleased with kisses but petting is fine.

I do love them! You all will, too.

I have built an incubator and I have been saving eggs the last few days from my one hen that is with a Roo and we know gets mated...todays egg is huge...twice the size of yesterdays and I suspect a double yolker...Has anyone hatched one like this or should I just enjoy it for breakfast?

**added** I just "candled" it and another...I can see 2 yolks compared to what I think is 1 in another...THIS IS THE FIRST TIME I HAVE CANDLED THOUGH...

It is most unlikely that a double yolker will hatch. Having said that, you can look on You Tube and see if you can find the video of a lady that hatched out a double yolker. MOF I think she was from here on BYC so you could probably search the archives for a thread on it.
They may develop but usually die in the shell. None of my double yolkers even developed when I tried them years ago.

Yancy and Jackie, guess what I finally found??????
The keet I lost yesterday had Terry in a panic as he really wanted Slate Guineas. (Imagine that!) When I told him that I looked for it in the brooder and could not find he went all crazed on me and tore the brooder room apart searching for it. He pulled out all the brooders and tore all the insulation away from the walls (it was pretty well holey anyhow) thinking it was stuck back in the walls. He searched all over and was very upset when he could not find it. I had already looked before he came down to the barn to help with chores but had not tore out the walls!

So this morning I looked all over again while I was cleaning up the mess he left (is anyone surprised?

) and still could not find it. I did find one that must have gotten out overnight and was in the sweet feed bag.

But as I was putting the tools back on the lower shelf in the corner I noticed where the outside wall had separated from the frame and it seemed big enough a keet may could have gotten through so I went around the back of the barn and sure enough, there was my little slate sitting in the weeds. It wasn't very wet at all, even though we had that big rain last night but I have more than 12" overhang off the roof in the back so I guess it stayed dry during the night. But I heard it was supposed to get down in the 50's last night, not that my thermometer said that when I got up at 7 am. But I scooped it up and put it back in with the others, covered the top with tons more wire and it snuggled under the heat lamp and ate some food. I hope it does well!!!
I have a big cage drying now and will move them all into there so it will not be able to get out. They are big enough now that I think a wire sided cage with the heat lamp on top may be okay for them. If it gets out of this cage I will name her something strong. Maybe Hercula......
