South Carolina

Hope everyones had a great weekend! We got back from vacation yesterday and it's so good to be back! Loved the beach but definately missed home! I was so excited today because my black australorp pullet I thought was never going to lay, finally layed her first egg

My blue orpingtons have also started laying while I was gone.

Does anyone raise call ducks on here? I'm looking into getting a pair of white call ducks. Anything special I need to know about raising them? What to feed, etc..

Here's a couple pics of my little flock free ranging today

I raise white call ducks. They are a lot of fun, but they are LOUD.

If you have close neighbors they might not appreciate it. I've found that call ducks are the silkies of the duck world in that they don't lay much and it takes a long time to raise up a big flock. I started with eggs, trying to hatch some 2 years ago. The eggs are harder to hatch too. I have a flock of 4 counting my one baby that my duck raised herself this year. I'm hoping for a few more eggs this Fall but so far nothing. They are beautiful, but hard to find and hard to raise. I now understand why they're so expensive to buy.

** I should stipulate that I personally don't find call ducks to be loud. I love the sounds they make, but I love to hear my guineas and peafowl and chickens and roosters etc. Most people are surprised that such a big noise can come from those tiny ducks. But that's how they got their name, they are the loudest of all ducks. Perfect for "Joyful Sounds" Farm.

I'm looking at a pair from Jerry Foley. I can deal with the noise though

I have been looking at them for a while and asked my hubby if I could get a pair. I think he's finally given up with saying no to more birds lol. What do you keep yours in and what do you feed them?

Funny you should ask where I keep them. Mine live in my D'Uccle pen.

My D'Uccle's have a nice size covered yard (as they are good flyers too) and the call ducks live in there. They all get along fairly well even when raising chicks and ducklings. You must have a covered pen, Call ducks are excellent flyers and a friend of mine lost hers because they wouldn't stay home. She "recovered" them from a neighbors fenced yard once (climbed over the fence and retrieved 3 ducks only to get caught by her neighbors coming home early). Anyway, they left again and she never found them.

I should have looked further! It is beautiful!!

I am working on my webpage for them so you can see much better photos then me posting them on here. I love the Porcelains the best but those MF are really cute, too. The best personality girl is the one Yancy showed first. She is such a good girl but so is the head Porcelain roo. I think Yancy was surprised that they came right up to him and when I went to put them back in their tractor he just scooped them up and was able to hand them to me without any problem.
I think the bloodline is one of the best I could have gotten my hands on with being close to the standard and personality plus.

Joy, post some photos of yours on here. We would love to see them. Especially cute little babies!

Ahem, anyone interested in a young Mille fleur d'uccle trio? looks like a boy and 2 girls. Came from show quality parents but too early to tell whether these are show quality.

Came from NPIP breeder, I am also NPIP and have been holding them for a couple weeks as their buyer fell through (I was just the middleman transporter).

I will going to Amy's place Saturday October 1st, somtime afternoon to early evening (after a rabbit show). I will have them with me as I will be returning them to their original breeder on my way home afterwards.

If anyone is interested, let me know. They are cute little things. Kid tested, kid approved.

I should have said CHILD NOT INCLUDED in sale

$10 for the trio, I believe Lori said that the boy and 1 girl could be SQ as they have the right toe feathering, just have to wait and see how they grow up. They have been in my laundry room in a big plastic tub (no heat lamp, but if they are going outside they may need one...house is around 70 degrees) for a week since the other buyer got exposed for being a scammer/flipper/liar.....I've just been holding onto them since then, waiting to either sell them or give them back to their original breeder.

I got your PM and responded. That's actually my niece...I dont have any kids (unless you count feathered and furry ones).

I sent you more info on their original breeder in the PM
