Well, DH is off work all week working on our new porch. I am still waiting for the wood from the old one! I just need to find that crow-bar(sp)....

Amy, I got caught up in impulse buying last night on ebay. I purchased 12+ BCM eggs from the Wade Jeane line. They are coming out of NC. My fingers are crossed they show up in one piece. I try not to buy eggs like this but my finger are crossed they are what they say they are. They are said to be a NPIP tested farm. The picture of the birds are some of the best I have seen on the auction sites. Many people say they have French copper Marans and in the pictures you see clean leg birds. Several people on ebay are selling Bev Davis Marans and the pictures show clean legs on the birds or just a few feathers. My 2 girls have pretty good feathers down the outside of the legs and on to the outside toe. Anyway, I discussed the hatching of some eggs with my husband last night and showed him the auction. Now I hope we can get a few chicks out of these eggs.

my mealworm farm has beetles!!! Yeah! I will soon be producing more mealworms!.. The girls are going to be so thrilled! Especially the one RIR who always flies up to my shoulder whenever she sees me coming with her favorite treat!

do they smell??/ I thought about starting one up but I don't want stinky rotten smell???

Pink, the tub smell some when you open it but you do not smell them with the lid on the tub. My husband thought the same thing but he has admitted that you do not smell them with the lid on their tub. My chickens just love the things too!!! It is worth the little smell when handling them! You do have to watch what you put in for moisture as that will rot and stink. I use carrots and that works great!

Good one! If that works, let me know. Always looking for another excuse (lie) to tell.

Yancy how do you practice restraint out at Amy's? I get misty eyed if I leave her place empty handed heehee.

Jackie,
I get misty eyed when you leave, too. Oh, yes, without a chicken, of course!

That is hilarious what you told Cleve! How great that he won't suspect a thing when you bring the eggs up here. Now, he may get a bit puzzled when you take one home later but we may have to wait until Christmas and you can tell him the pullet was present from me! In another year or two he may start catching on to all this.

ROTFL because Jackie just did an impulse buy! But she did BLRW.

Sounds like you got a great deal, Heidi. Can't go wrong with Marans, imo. I like the breed as a whole but had less luck with the wheatens so I sold them. They had the darkest egg color of any I had at that time but I now have that dark color in the ones I am breeding. I worry that my splash roo, Regis, will not produce as well of a color of eggs because the lighter the feather color the lighter the egg, in my young experience.

However, I am setting only the darkest eggs from hens with him so I can further my breeding program.
And I love his heavily feathered legs, too. Don't know why but his just look fetching on him.

He is on the bottom of my black copper Marans webpage.

Keep us informed of how they do. I get eggs shipped to me all the time and most are in good shape. However, NC has been my worse state for shipping.
