Here is the slate keet at 6 weeks. And she is friendly, too. Not sure if it is because of her color or she is just a pig but she is always running to the door when I open it and taking a cue from Jackie I held out my hand with food in it and she ate it while the others stood back in terror. I was able to get shots of her very easy and the flash did not bother her a bit. DH says I have to keep her under lock and key because slates are so rare and she is so friendly.

It will be awesome to see how she develops in the next month or so. It is so strange to see red keet turn into a blue Guinea. But what a fascinating journey!

Don't worry, they can still fool me!! It will be neat to see how they develop!!

Thanks to both of you for the input. I will make more pictures for sure. I think I have 2 that could be slate blues, with the reddish backs. They look like Amy's chick on her website. I have the one that is solid white, not a stripe of anything on her. And the couple that look lavender are different shades so I'm thinking at least one of them is different. I've had lavender before so can't wait to see what the darker one turns into. I'm thrilled with them, whatever colors I end up with. And those royal purple pieds are so cute with their white tummies. I haven't had pied before either. Thanks again!

Joy, I only saw one Royal Purple that looks to be pied. Royal Purples have white tummy to start with but if their shoulders are white without the brown then they are usually pied as adults--I think only one of your purples will be pied from the picture but there again that is only a guess. You will have a lot of fun I bet watching them all develop!!

Heidi,
I got this one from eggs from another breeder. She has slates but her Guineas were slowing down in laying and this is the only one that hatched for me and probably the only one from her pen of those. In reading and researching I found that they are quite rare but think they are so cool.

I am going to have to sit down and study these guineas! It amazes me how these keets change colors so much! Of course, it also amazes me how my SLW started out as a black, brown and gray chick...
We set up a roost out in the run for the girls today. They have a great old stump to roost on, but I decided to make them one they can all fit on. It is just so fun to watch them check out something new. Of course, they also enjoyed my toes the whole time since I happened to have on sandals. Lou Ann was changing their water and filling up their feeder so they were going in the coop to check out what she was doing and coming outside to see what was happening there. When I left, it was naptime-for all of us!

Yay! That'ss so awesome! I think guineas sense fear. So if they know you expect them to freak out, they act accordingly. Or maybe it's all in my head. Which is probably the case

Olive Eggers are a cross between a blue egg layer with a dark egg layer (Americauna x black copper maran usually). I have a few, mine are really beautiful blue hens with the muffs and also feathered legs. I have a really sweet splash olive egger roo that needs a new home. His name is Oliver, and he's extremely friendly if anyone is interested.

And mine are completely black but lay a beautiful dark olive egg!

I've missed a lot but it was such a gorgeous weekend, I was outside and not online! We let our 25 guineas out for the first time this weekend... under supervision from the hawk. They had the biggest time!

Didn't take long for them to be on all the coops and squawking away! I think they are just hilarious. Our farm cat, Kitty Witty, didn't seem too interested. She's more of a "people" cat.

My son just loves her. And she him.

I had the strangest customer ever this weekend. Showed up out of nowhere and the first thing he tells me is that he has brain lesions and he has violent outbursts and tried to kill his wife but he's on medication now so it should be under control. Who says that the first minute they meet someone? I got a bad vibe immediately. My husband was far away on the tractor. I've never had a customer make me so uncomfortable but this guy was weird! Tried to block me in the coop and was just inappropriate. And then he started badmouthing one of you, really negative stuff, and I told him I know you and like you and I don't want to hear it and he should really get his facts straight before he starts ruining someone's reputation. Total nut. I've really been thankful that I've met so many wonderful people through chickens. This guy was a nut job. Just be assured I defended the innocent party big time! One of you might know who he was. He's from Greenville.

I'm loving this weather but it's going by too fast! The summer seemed to DRAGGGGGG along and now the beautiful weather is just flying by.
