Oh how beautiful! I'm jealous

My son is taking riding lessons and begging for a horse.

She has a Tri color Paint that is a year old also...even prettier...very small adoption fee( these came from a foster for equine dream rescues...they had been seized by animal control from another rescue and were in bad shape but are looking much better!) She is NOT broke but is used to being handled and will make a GREAT horse with some time and love...and training. I have some horse experience so you may want to check into that side of things if you are interested. PM me for more info and I can prob email a pic.

She is totally gorgeous! You are so lucky to have gotten her and she has gotten a great family.

In another year she won;t look the same. You will have her so big and filled out she will be even more awesome to look at. I think she looks like she is easy to handle so breaking her in another year or so won't be any problem. I did that for eons and had a long waiting list since I used extreme gentle training and people could barrel race their horses with snaffle bits when I was through. I rode my personal dressage horse without a bridle at all.

You are so lucky to have such a beauty and I can tell your DD is already in love.

Your turn, Joy! I know your DS would love his own horse!

Wow, I would not have believed she was a rescue! She is beautiful and it is wonderful you got her!!

Thank you...she is beautiful but still a little under weight...she was all bones a month ago and covered in sores...she is a little stubborn but I like spirit and I know she is going to make an awsome gal!! The other gal was hard to pass up but we are not prepared for 2 and I felt this lil girl needed help more. She is very dependent on other horses and needs to learn to depend on people so she will be alone for little while then we will add one!! Its hard because they are herd animals but it will be best in the long run so she can learn to trust...she has not had good people until the last few weeks.

Can't wait til you get her home and the kids get to spend a bunch of time with her. They sure loved petting on my old stud horse when they were here. She will be good for them and they will be good for her. You may catch your kids sleeping with her!

I can bet they are too excited and I don't think she looks bad at all. She must have been pitiful a month ago.
Add a bit of calf manna to her grain to help her bones and feed timothy hay with her grain and she will gain and blossom tremendously.

I would dig out all my old photos and put them up here but I don't want to bore everyone with all my horsey photos. We spent years showing and breeding horses, long before our dog showing and having a child. I used to talk, sleep and breath horses.

I would love to take another one in but then this old fella gets on my nerves and I realize it is time for me to give up on horses and move onto something smaller. If not for my crazy old hips and that nasty arthritis I would still be riding. I miss it.

I have a happy family this morning. I had told all of you about Daisy, our beloved white peking duck getting killed a couple of weeks ago. I had found a couple of eggs in her house. Well guess what we found in the incubator this morning. Yep, one lone little yellow duck. I think all of us had tears in our eyes. What a great day on our little farm.

Making room for more of those OEGB?
big_smile.png

I am glad they want your Polish. I don't know how you can let go of the buff laced though. Those are so gorgeous!

No, making room for the Marans--I keep telling hubby that the OEGB do not take up space!

Yes, the buff laced are a beautiful bird but I have decided to sell all the polish to make room for my Marans so I have to stay strong....

I can tell you what little bit I have learned over the years. I don't visit the Marans thread because they still have not been accepted into the SOP and people argue about them all the time. Been going on for more than 4 years, at least. I have probably mentioned a lot of dislikes I have over some Marans breeders so I will shut up about that.

A lot of people have always loved the dark, dark brown egg that Marans are well known for over in France. Over here, folks started trying to perfect the breed to show them the way they wanted them to look. With that, they lost egg color. So their happy butts decided to breed in Penedesencas! (Don't ask me why) Those are LF that are very flighty but lay the most gorgeous egg! Nice dark brown and a good size. However, they have carnation combs and those combs carry a dominant trait so guess what pops up when breeding some bloodlines of Marans?

I got some eggs off of the auction one time that were very dark and hatched out the chicks. Ack! I sold them as mixed breeds because that is what they are. They were flighty youngsters and probably lay a nice dark egg but not what I wanted in my breeding pen. I like my Marans laid back and gentle. Their egg color is their own and maybe not perfect but I like it just fine. If I see a sprig, I sell them but so far none of mine have produced that.

If you want a breed that lays the darkest brown you will ever see then get the black or Partridge Penedesencas but be warned, they are big birds and when they are frightened you may get clobbered. They have a nice wing span and long legs.

Amy, how soon before you could you tell you had a problem in you hatch? I am afraid I may have gotten some of those eggs. That is what I get for not doing my research. I have 8 chicks in the incubator now and at least one more hatching. The picture the man had showed great color and type but I did not know to look at the combs and he does state he had 3 pen I believe.

I wanted to have a good rooster by mid spring and probably got bit on this one. I can not even get the man to send me his NPIP number he says he has so I am thinking that is for show too. I guess I expect people to be honest....

ok someone please tell me how this auction works. Everytime I place a bid it tells me I have been outbid. Really how does it happen so fast. Can a bidder place a bid to a certain amount an you cant see it. Im totally mad.

Yes, if the starting bid is say .99 and you bid $12, the bid would only show .99. Now if another person bid $10 it would go to $10.50 and still be your bid but say they bid $15, it would go to $12.50 and be there bid. Does that make since?
