I need to get some ammonia...

My coop has a cement floor at the base I think I am going to painstakingly remove the pine shavings and dirt and then use ammonia in there too. Hmmm. Time to put my husband to work.

I might be interested in some eggs.

Lark, after you clean that cement get yourself some good clean sand and cover that cement with sand. You can put pine shavings over that but it will keep the dust down and any dropping that get down to the sand will dry very quickly. We had a load of sand delivered here for putting in the pens and it has helped in the polish pen I think a great deal. They have been my biggest problem with cocci. --just a thought!

lauren if you want to crank up your incabator. i have some eggs that i will give you. i wormed my birds the past 2 sundays and i dont want to incabate any at this time right now. they will be from my blrw, black ameraucanas, blue ameraucanas, speckeld sussex, light sussex and cornation sussex. and i dont want to eat any after worming them. if you want them let me know thanks jack

I am so glad you live far enough away that I am not tempted to get eggs from you! If we lived close enough then I would probably have a lot of birds from you. I have always loved your BLRW and now with the Ameraucanas I know I would be in trouble, too. That is why I only visited Gary Ramey one time. I came home with a van full of birds! And have loved every minute of it.

d'Uccles at your service. Okay, I hatched BLRW, Marans and bantam Cochin in the same bunch but you see mostly d'Uccles in the photos. You can see their fluffy beards and muffs already. You are going to love yours, Samantha!!!!

Hm. Sand. I can do that.

Anyone have a solution for getting birds IN the coop at night. I had a few idiots that would sleep outside instead of going in their house and if it rained that night...poor chicken. I think I had a rooster sleeping on their ramp. Silly birds. So I kept my door open to help them get in better and we had rain terrible rain a few weeks back and it DRENCHED my shavings.

Oh a positive note. I let them free range all day yesterday and came home to my neighbor at her fence wanting to see the chickens so I showed them Happy Feet my rooster who looks a lot like Toffee. She had her grandiose visiting and they threw bread in my yard and my braver chickens happily munched away at bread before going back to their coop for the night. She said she had tried calling my chickens over to her side all afternoon and they were giving her a cold shoulder. Haha.
