Not supposed to. We had over a dozen chickens with two broad-breasted white turkeys last year, and no problems.

But blackhead can be an issue.

I know I was ready to shut down my bator and hatcher but now have more d'Uccle eggs on the way so I am still going to be hatching a bit. I know, I know! I said no more hatching but people keep giving me eggs from SQ stock and I can't turn those away!
I had a man in IA call me yesterday and wanted to send me more Iowa Blues, too. I am not sure if I will get those or not. I love them so far but they are only chicks in my brooder right now. We are just going to see if they lay well through this week and I may get those put in the bator, too.

I still have about 3 dz eggs to hatch out in the next 2 1/2 weeks. Mostly Mottled Cochins and BLRW chicks. Actually, I do need to set more Mottled eggs since I sold some. I like to make sure they are viable though everything has been hatching fine so far. I may just open them to check fertility though since I have so many chicks now. Decisions, decisions! I do love chicks but hate winter raising.

Debra came to get chicks yesterday and did not bring eggs so I was able to unplug her bator. That is one I can take off the table now. I am thinking I want to advertise that antique table anyhow so I need to be able to move stuff off so I can photograph it and show it. It has been in my family almost 100 years but I don't need it and it is really too nice for my house. I have more of the country look in my home.

Anyhow! Is everyone going to be cooking tomorrow?
We were not going to have a big feast but DD's boyfriend bought a bunch of food and brought it over to be cooked for Thursday. I guess DD and I will do a bit of cooking. She is getting the hang of all this cooking and cleaning domesticated stuff. I just enjoy spending time with her.

Actually found a spare minute to jump on here and read! Phew! Amazing how days just fly by, so I"m cheating and jumping on here before I do my homework and chores, and housework, etc.

Is everyone ready for Thanksgiving? Originally we were just going to have a regular meal, but then one of my DDs called and she's bringing home a boyfriend, so now with company I have a reason to really cook something. Will get all my deserts done tomorrow so hopefully there wont be much left except simple stuff and the turkey.

While playing around on facebook met a lady named Beth Gollihue who started a few chicken swap pages for different states. She started a Chicken Swap for South Carolina group yesterday and already people are posting pictures and joining the group. If anyone is interested and can't find it, let me know and I'll send you the link to the page. I swear chicken people are the nicest people no matter where you are at!

After checking my eggs in the bator, looks like half my quail eggs are developing but all my big eggs were either blood rings, quitters or simply clear. I'm pretty sure it has to do with the post office as I was talking to my carrier and he says the sorters stand in one place and throw packages across the room into boxes or bins. Keep that in mind while sending Christmas presents through the mail this year.

Time to head out and feed the chickens. Looks like it's going to be a gorgeous day! Have a good one everyone!

I am new to Facebook and still forget to get on it to check stuff but it is another outlet for me to reach friends so I try to get over and work on it, too. Can you PM me the link to the SC group. My searches on there have proved futile.

I have heard so many horror stories about eggs being shipped it really is a wonder when any of them hatch. They are truly little miracles.
