Thanks for the post! I was wondering how it went/what it included/what it involved....but it is an expense right here at X-mas time and I didn't have much forewarning/planning time! LOL...If you do host one in the spring and I get at least 4 weeks notice...I WILL be there! ( I have to budget like everyone else and do not get paid weekly! lol) I had just heard of this session the first of this week and played with the idea of going but honestly JUST couldn't afford it...Now you have me a little bit regretting not being there BUT looking forward to sharing the experience with you as hosting!!!

Yes, I am still hoping too. The 18th day will tell me for sure. You know people do not like to bring too much attention to their egg boxes when shipped but the best results I have had was when people did plaster the box with something--for example: I got my guinea hatching eggs from Oklahoma and the woman put big pictures all over the box with guineas on it and it said "Live Guinea Hatching Eggs" handle with care, and my phone number was on the box. When the box got to the Savannah sorting facilities they actually called me to come pick it up! I have never be called by that postal building and did not even know it was there until that occasion. I got a wonderful hatch from those eggs and they even got to me very fast. I also got bantam chicken eggs this summer from my mother, who lives in Spokane, Washington. Her post office person put big 8 x8 sheets on the box that said "Live Animals" and then hatching eggs below that, and do not xray, handle with care. Priority mail got it to me the next day! I am sure it went right on a plane. Out of 3 dozen eggs I got 2 dozen to develop and 18 live healthy chicks--which I thought was pretty good for that distance. I do not know if the "Live" part makes them handle the box different or just a coincidence.

Anyway, it is a hit and miss game.

Were they put in with other (bigger) chickens? If so, I would worry that someone had hurt her, like maybe a big rooster. Otherwise, I'm not sure but I would keep her warm and make sure she eats and drinks.

On second thought, how old is she? Look up the symptoms of marek's disease. Here's one link with some info:

Nope they were by themselves..She is eating. I scrambled her an egg and she went to town on it. She just started laying I'd say in October..but I'm not sure exactly how old she is.

How is your little hen doing? If she is laying she should be past the age Marek's shows up but that is kind of what it sounds like--are you giving her electrolytes and Vitamins? Has she been laying recently?

I have four little hens and they seem fine. Of course, I haven't checked today! How old are yours?

Did you know you can tell if a hen is laying or not by feeling their pelvic bones? I had no idea! And if they're too fat.

The one piece of advice he kept repeating over and over was this: You will always have in your flock what you tolerate. Mean roosters, non-laying hens (both of which he says are genetic), poor combs, etc. If you keep it, you'll always have it. I thought that was interesting and an eye opener. I think I have a lot of non-laying hens. He said don't keep consumers that are not producers!

The ones who passed yesterday were about a year and the other bird was a little younger. Bot surprised the one died (it was my ugly curly) but the other was a bantam EE I've had since a chick.

And I still have not had any eggs since august! Not from any bird and my seramas have yet to lay...

I need to get out of this chicken business!
