Ok...so maybe cooking cookies to eat while we decorate the tree may be why its been taking sooo many nights....we want the cookies!!

Thanks for the motivation! I have a question, since we're all in SC and most of us don't have to deal with freezing of water and such.... what does everyone use as a water container. Anyone devised an automated watering system that they like?

Well, in my part of SC I do have to deal with freezing water for at least a few weeks in Jan and Feb. I am currently working on a design using a 55 gallon plastic drum and a big plastic tray (hotwater heater tray) as sort of a siphon drinker. I have 3 in use right now and they seem to be working well enough that I'm going to get more barrels and make some more. I MUST elimate some work. I have 50+ drinkers and feeders in use right now. I have to fill them all everyday. I'm thinking that I could probably use a bird bath heater in the tray to keep the water from freezing. This summer I'll have to figure out how much Oxine to put in the water to keep it from growing yucky stuff in the heat. That's my current idea as I HATE, HATE, HATE those typical chicken drinkers.
 
Well, I've advertised my Cuckoo Marans for sell as I think I will stop breeding them and I really must reduce my flock a bit (actually I just need to reduce my food bill and workload a bit). Anyway, I'm very excited as I just noticed today that one of my cuckoo maran hens has grown feathers on her legs. WooHoo! I was surprised to see this and looked closer at all of them. The roos don't seem to have any feathers on their legs but I can see a few small feathers on all of the hens legs but my one girl has some pretty nice feathers coming in. Just wanted to share, who else would be excited about feathers on chicken legs?
