IMHO I keep batteries in the smoke detector and the fire extinguishers charged all of the time. We don't plan for fires, but if one happens we want to be as prepared as possible.

I feel the same way about my firearms. (if you get my drift)

We also have a gallon of skunk odor shampoo. when our neighbors called us about what to do after their dog got sprayed, I told them to come over and get it. they asked "why would you keep skunk odor remover shampoo? I said, well it's sunday morning, where would you go to buy it now. we have it JUST IN CASE.

PS I agree Merry CHRISTmas. but I think the other is quite funny.

Oh the pretty lights...fyi this roo was not happy about being my photo puppet!!! lol

But I bet Teddi will love this!!!

Ok had 5 ameraucana eggs go to lock down...the duccles I set were not fertile...4 have piped with one fully out and one real close on day 20!! the one that hasnt done anything has always been way too thick to candle AT ALL! I could see the others so I am not expecting much but we will see!!

I also have 3 Amers and 2 BO/BLRWS set and one Amer seems behind and one is cracked I saw today when I candled...they are at day 14 and I have not done anything but stick my hand in to roll them...the cracked one is a long crack but hard to see unless you candle and seems to be developed about right and must not be through membrane...should I leave it be??

I have 2 very sweet golden comet hens that I got at a Clemson Extension/4-H show/auction that lay every day...(BTW...not sure if the Clemson Chicken P-O-L-I-C-E were there that day...LOL...that's for Amy!) I love their looks, personality, and eggs...what could I "mate" them with to get fertile Comet type eggs? I think I read they are a sex-link breed and do not have a good understanding of what that is...are they an infertile type (meaning they come from 2 other types)? They seem to be a great layer of dependable almost large eggs! I would like to get/hatch more from these 2 hens. What makes a Golden Comet and where or how can I find them a "man"?

BTW...I ask this because I had my 2 Comet hens with my Ameraucauna Roo (only because there was no where else to put them) for a while and my DD set eggs twice with no "action" what-so-ever in the eggs...

Comets are hybrids which means they will not breed true. They are cross bred birds. The golden comet is a cross between a white rock female and a new hampshire male. There are several ways to get a red sexlink chicken. You can use a white leghorn x rhode island red, rhode island whites are sometimes used. You can put any rooster with your comets and hatch chicks but they will be barnyard mutts, which aren't bad they just won't be comets.
