Kimberly has a blue Mottled bantam Cochin from me right now. As soon as her hen lets him breed her she may return him. He is pretty awesome. I will probably sell him since I have his dad, Cowboy. I also have a black Mottled roo that is his brother. He is just as nice only a different color.

I am sure I will see Judy at the upcoming spring shows. I will let her know what you said.

Forrest needs to learn who does what in that relationship.

She was treating him like he was a hen today! At feeding time, she scratched and tried to call him to eat!!

Comets are hybrids which means they will not breed true. They are cross bred birds. The golden comet is a cross between a white rock female and a new hampshire male. There are several ways to get a red sexlink chicken. You can use a white leghorn x rhode island red, rhode island whites are sometimes used. You can put any rooster with your comets and hatch chicks but they will be barnyard mutts, which aren't bad they just won't be comets.

I resisted getting one for that very reason. I've got to admit, I am resisting getting the NPIP cert for the same reason. P-a-r-a-n-o-i-a I know, but it seems a lot of things I used to count as conspiracy theory off the wall stuff seems to be turning out to be true. I read up on some of the government papers on disease, and in it there is not doubt they would like to eliminate small flock owners. Or at least to me it seemed so. But I finally got my CWP earlier this year. I don't carry all the time, but when it's nice to know I can if I feel the need.

I am so glad it isn't just me that feels this way. I do without a lot of stuff because there are too many fingers in the cookie jar.
I am not paranoid, just careful.
Too many acquaintances have had their flocks destroyed with some very precious birds in them because they were told they had contagious diseases. Keep in mind, I am the one that keeps saying the wild migratory birds carry these diseases. I am adamant about this. Chickens can not be totally protected unless put inside those horrid chicken houses the commercial egg producers have.

I really need one of those shirts, "When chickens are outlawed, only outlaws will have chickens." I firmly believe that! We have a book written back in the 50's that has had an awful lot of it come true. Scary!

IMHO I keep batteries in the smoke detector and the fire extinguishers charged all of the time. We don't plan for fires, but if one happens we want to be as prepared as possible.

I feel the same way about my firearms. (if you get my drift)

We also have a gallon of skunk odor shampoo. when our neighbors called us about what to do after their dog got sprayed, I told them to come over and get it. they asked "why would you keep skunk odor remover shampoo? I said, well it's sunday morning, where would you go to buy it now. we have it JUST IN CASE.

I hadn't thought about another Cochin roo since I only have her now, but it might be nice. When you get him back pm me and I will see what I have in birds and maybe I can take him. Thanks.

Well, if Forrest keeps dominating him she may have to get a "stronger" male to make her lay fertile eggs. I know Kimberly and Nicole are wanting babies (Okay, Nicole resists but she rally wants them!). Forrest is just a bit on the spoiled side. She may be little but she has a big attitude!
I will let you know about him. He is a handsome dude. I also have a few of his brothers growing up but can't tell yet just how typy they will be. I plan to keep a few ladies for my Frizzle project, too. They do make gorgeous pets. And Ranger will get a chance with one, too.
I swear, my farm has turned mostly into bantam Cochin-ville!
