Susanne, the guineas will not mess with the turkeys! Turkeys make great watch dogs in the yard too. I'm really hoping that mine stay as sweet as they are through spring mating season. If so, I'll be keeping more. They are probably opposite of the guineas personality in that they are always underfoot. They seem to always want to be right with me when I'm in the yard. I had a customer today and the turkeys went right up to him to greet him. Tom had to show his tail feathers and his snood.

I gave them all pats on the head and they were satisfied to just follow us around. Very unusual birds.

Guineas don't get underfoot? Someone need to tell mine! They follow me everywhere. Especially when I first come out. I'd love to go visit that farm. Do they sell eggs/poults?

Patientwait sells eggs and poults, but does not ship poults

there is an interesting e-book (PDF format) called "raising heritage turkeys on pasture" from the American Livestock Breeders Conservancy Gail had great things to say about the book and the organization (deals mostly with rare breeds including chickens, goats, sheep, cattle, etc)

I didn't know that, my vet was still treating just a few months ago. That is awful, why would any company want to remove something that is medically working and needed? People pay lots of money to have their pets treated so they surely were making money from it.

They didn't remove it because they wanted to. They had to because one of the ingredients, as I understand it, has become unavailable from another country. All this out sourcing causes problems in every field and will eventually be our demise. First for our animals and then for us.
It has only been about 6 months since this happened. Several of my friends are vets and told me about it. I have not researched it to confirm anything though as I have no interest at this point. Just passing along info I received from very reliable sources.
I am sure the companies will rally around and find other ways to get more immiticide made or bring out a new product but I think a new product may take years unless they were already working on one but there wasn't any info known on that.
Meantime, a lot of vets had stored back some cartons of immiticide for use or are going the slow route with Revolution or such.

We have several vet techs on here that may be in the know. Hopefully we will hear from one of them.

I am with you, Susanne! My Guineas get under my feet and in my way just as badly as my chickens. Thank goodness they are good when I have people here. They stayed a decent distance away while I was showing some folks around the farm yesterday but were always close enough to keep an eye on us. Once people would leave they would be following and under my feet again until more showed up. I can't go into a coop without coming out and have them right in the doorway.

I do believe this will change once spring comes and more bugs are out for them. I think now they are bored and want to see what the "crazy" humans are up to now.

I am soooooooooo liking it.

Maybe the colors are something that can be changed later. Til then, you can always dim your monitor brightness see if that helps. I do that when I have a migraine.

Yes, I did tinker with it some yesterday and Terri and others told me some things to do to change it, so I did. It helped a lot. I have to have those grays working for me and not bright white. I felt I needed sunglasses on there after being on this system for so long.
I wanted to go play around some more but today I have a lot of meal worm orders to get ready to ship out tomorrow, plus I am shipping out some birds and eggs that I need to get ready (boxes taped up, labels made etc) and I also have to drive over and pick up my gorgeous new pair of Muscovy!!!!

Once you get the new Muscovy, we may not see you for days! You will be loving all over them and just oohing and aahing at them as much as you can. I am so glad you are finally getting them!

We are now getting eggs from five out of our seven chickens. The only holdouts seem to be Maranda, the Cuckoo Marans and Harriet, the Ameraucana. I expected Harriet to be last, just from what I had read about Ameraucana's taking their time. She has been squatting now for about 9 days or so. maranda, zip thought would lay first. She turned red first, had the most comb first and squatted first. I think she knows we really want to see her beautiful dark brown eggs and is making us wait!
In the meantime, we are slowly but surely, figuring out whose egg is whose. It amazes me that three Buff Orps can lay eggs of three different shades. If they stay like this, though, we will always know who is laying.
