South Carolina

Had a huge long story written up and it deleted itself.

Long story short. I had sand delivered yesterday and while preparing for its arrival I found a huge white egg. I thought my husband was playing a trick on me because my hens haven't laid since late summer. Well, just to be sure I went on an egg hunt and found a second smaller egg and then as I was about to walk in my garage my barred rock comes running from under the porch and I see this:

That little stinker!!! She's been stashing eggs! And just to prove a point she went back over there after I collected these and proceeded to lay another.

So...my hens are laying again!

Who laid the white egg? I have a White Leghorn I think is the culprit. But I also have two EE and BLRW hen.

I put all 6 eggs in the incubator. Also, will these chicks be sex-linked if the father is a RIR red mix and the mom is a barred rock?

This Summer I had to do an adventure under the deck...Just loved that....BUT guess what I found. A nest of 18 eggs I was so mad at my girls for hiding eggs....Then 2 weeks later I found a nest of 13 eggs in my burn pile...They had made a nice little cozy nest and ALL the girls where laying away...I floated the eggs and only one floated, I still didn't want to eat the others so I boiled them and gaven back to the girls. They ate them up!!! lol

I am glad your storm was not like ours!! It was not fun at the time and the fog got so thick off the ice in the heat that for hours it got where it was not safe to walk outside! But the kids had fun sledding for a couple minutes.

We had a tornado come through last june...our yard looked like this!! (yes, had to play with pic posting) And I dont know of any BYCer I would ever block! Everyone rocks!

Isn't there a saying, "when in January you hear thunder, within 10 days you'll be snowed under"? We had some wicked lightening and thunder here before the hail hit. One of my hens was wandering around in it and I expected to find her dead but she survived.....for now. It was some horrible strong hail that came down.
Didn't we talk about this last year on this thread?

And welcome to our SC thread!
Pull up a chair, put your feet up and tell us about yourself and your chickens, turkeys, guineas, ducks and whatever else you have! We talk gardens on here, too and sometimes some family stuff. A LOT about the animals though!

HELP...My BLRW chick had a swollen eye...it is one that cooked itself when I had the light down to low(it could have moved) and I thought it was a burn.I have been putting terramycin ointment in its eye...came home today to both eyes caked shut and trouble breathing ans shivering.I have brought her in and put her in a brooder box but need to know what antibiotic I can give and get at TSC? It will be tomorrow before I can even get anything and I work so it will be 4 before I can even treat. She is in my kitchen for the night and all others are %100? since she was smaller could have the cooler wet temps outside even with a light availible have caused this?
